Marantz 7T and Model 16 Amp

I picked up the 7T and model 16 today. I have a couple of questions.

1) Are the lamps easy to change? Are they the same as the 22xx series?

2) What would be the matching tuner for these?

3) Will these "outperform" my 170DC and a 3250B

Any other input or suggestions are greatly appreciated as I'm not really familiar with these.

Lamps are different....

Matching tuner would be a 10b or 20/20b.

My two cents... once recapped and cleaned the 7t is great.... the headphone socket is problem as it has contact that are in the signal path that shut the rear outputs off with headphones plugged in. The contacts should be bypassed for best sound.

The 16b is thought of as being one of the best amps....

You have a great US made set....

I was hoping that wasn't the case with the tuner, probably a little more money then I can afford for one.

Hmm maybe some LED's for the lamps?
 
Ok maybe I'm missing something? I just Got it all fired up. I have sound coming from both speakers but when I turn the balance knob to the right I get barley any sound, all the way to the left and in the normal position both speakers are working. Am I only getting output from one side of the amp on the 16?

Check the wiring....?

tuner is your choice... but the 10 & 20 were from the same time frame.

I hope you get your model 16 straightened out.I really like mine.It is paired up with a 3200 preamp.
Did you try another preamp,or switch the leads to isolate the problem?
 
Ok I figured it out. Let's just say someones a dumba$$ and that someone is me.
Here's a pic of them both. I haven't started to clean them yet, just enjoying the music right now. Certainly do sound good, but I have to be honest I'm missing the 170DC a little!

He was a very nice older Gentleman. Stupid me in all my excitement forgot to ask him if he was the original owner. I was surprised to see that even the wood case was in very good shape. Now I need to hunt one down for the Model 16.
 
Enjoy brudder, enjoy. Got same pair pushing some 4311's with "Graceland" on the table right now. Truly a great combo and at that price pure audio larceny. You have start of a very Happy New Years.
 
Just recently acquired a Model 16 myself, very impressive sound.

Preamping with a 2250 for the time being.
 
I had a neighbor who had the 15 & 7 (both solid state). They didn't match up in over all sound to the 300 DC & 3650. Mush more noise and less dynamic range. Both his and mine are connected to JBL speakers.
 
Noise ? my 7t can be turned up all the way and you only hear noise with your ear right next to the speaker and that is with the 500 amp.

After listening for a couple days I really like them, still not sure if I want to keep them or maybe trade them out for a better match to the 170DC. Hmmmm?
