Technics 1200 (Mk1) / 1100A Pitch Pots

Would any of you guys happen to know if the actual pots (not the mechanism) are interchangeable in these two models?
I have a chance to pick up the whole pitch pot mechanism of a 1200 mk1 and I would like to extract one of the pots and put it in a 1100A. The 1100A has a knob that screws on to the pitch pot, I can't seem to figure out if the 1200 pot has a screw on knob or if its all one piece? If its all one piece, i don't think it will work. I hope this all makes sense :D

Long story, but here goes. My pitch was a bit unstable so I decided to go inside and clean the pot. In order to remove the pitch pot mechanism, you have to remove the knobs from both pots. My dumb a$$ striped one of the pots trying to remove the knob.
 
They look the same on the outside, I would take the chance and buy it, you can always sell it if it doesn't work.

So if I understand you correctly. You stripped the pot shaft that is in the center of the pot? that seems strange that the shaft would strip out. I was thinking maybe you used to much cleaner and it will need a bit of time to dry out.
I have an SL1100A myself what was your reason for cleaning it? Was the speed off?

yeah, it drifted quite a bit. After the pot was striped out, I replaced it with a generic 1k pot as a temporary fix. But it really didn't fix the problem. Next I cleaned the internal pitch adjuster pots that are located on the motherboard and it almost fixed the problem. The TT still drifts a little at start up, but settles down after on for a good 10 min.
I was reading on Vinyl Engine that a poorly lubercated 1100 can cause this sort of thing, I plan on giving my TT a lube soon.

I just sold my SL-1200 MK I but the pot knobs looked just like the ones on my 1100, including spacing.

I will wager they are a perfect match.
 
Well, the results are in! I found a guy on e-pay who sold me a pair of pitch pots for the 1100 as well as a pair for the 1200 MK1. First the pics.

1100 Pot. Notice the threads to screw on the pitch knob.

As it turned out, both 1100 pots that this guy sent me were bad so I had no choice but to try and use the 1200 pots. The main problem with the 1200 pots is that if you install them where you are supposed to, the knob won't be accessible from outside of the TT. This is mainly due to the fact that the shaft is just not long enough. The way I remedied this situation was to attach the pot directly to the body of the TT. I had to hollow out the hole slightly so the threads of the pot would fit, then I just screwed it in.
The results, well it doesn't look pretty but the pitch is very stable.

I'm suprised they are different! I had just sold my original SL-120 before you posted your original inquiry, but I'd have thought Technics would have used the same parts on these models.

I'm quite suprised!

Look like generic mini-pots! What's the resistance? You could try fitting some telecaster tone knobs..

Well I am glad that you finally got your 1100 fixed. I can't believe they used two different pots. I always thought they where the same. At one time I had an 1100 and a 1200 at the same time, but I never noticed they where different. I guess you tried cleaning the 1100 pots he sent you first to see if you could bring them back to life. I finally retired my two 1100A's. They still work fine, I just moved them to my DJ table with my Urie 1620 mixer. I hardly ever use my DJ setup, so I guess you can considered them retired. My main table now for listening to records is a SL-1210 M5G. I will eventually get all the Kab mods done to it just to see what it sounds like. Glad to here you got your baby fixed.

I would really like to do something like that in the future. The pots are 1 K ohm . I wonder if I can get a replica custom made?
