You guys ain't gonna believe this one - or maybe you will. CL ad for a Thorens TD160 and 35 albums - $45. It was posted last night around 11 so I didn't figure it was still available but I called anyhow. The guy said it was still available and he was only 5 minutes from my shop. I go down, look at it and the records, and didn't even haggle with him! Gave him $45 no questions asked! :thmbsp:

This one is just about mint. The dustcover hinges aren't broken which is a rarity on these turntables but it is scratched up a little. It even has the original owners manual!

And the records are some classic rock albums, the most notable at least to me is James Gang ~ Bang (with Tommy Bolin).

You can get over $100 for the Q-up cuing device alone. What a nice Deal!
Enjoy,
Jim

It's a Thorens auto-lift so it must have been a Thorens accessory that they sold for their turntable. First one that I've seen on a Thorens.

And in the records was a NM copy of The Beatles Hey Jude with the The Beatles Again Apple label. :thmbsp:

Great score, I was just doing a platter bearing re-oiling yesterday on mine! May I ask what serial number yours has? Mine appears to be a later 220xxx.

Excellent score!

You could break even just by selling the dust bug! That's an Audio Technica model and they usually fetch $40-$50.

I've owned my 160c since new. Take care of the dust cover, they tend to break the little plastic pieces that hook to the pins to form the hinge. The Pickering is a nice cartridge. I use the QVS/4500 version that was the quad cartridge.

Like I tell everyone "Welcome To The Thorens Club".

Nice Thorens!

I have a mint Thorens TD-160, and bought for the large sum of $12!

Took the arm off and put a SME 3009 II Improved on.

Here is where you can get a replacement for your Pickering Cartridge (which is a very nice one to have.). It has the Shibata Stylus (Quadraphonic) tip. Made by JICO of Japan, excellent company for replacements.

Here is some info on how to tweak a Thorens. I did mine and sounds WAY better than stock form.
