Another item picked up in the scrap iron pile! :thmbsp: 1960s 3M Wolensak reel to reel tape recorder. Uses a 12ax7 and a 6t9 tube into a 6x9 speaker. Pretty much junk but I think I can salvage the amp and power supply (solid state).
If it has tubes I will grab! :banana:

My Grandfather bought one of those when I was a pre-teen. Always loved it, no VZU meter, a neon bulb would flash when it was overmodulating. Built like a tank!

We had one too. I rebuilt it as best as I could, although some of the rubber parts were a bit troublesome.

One Wollensak model has a pair of 7591s, 6EU7s, (2) SE output transformers, vibration isolation dampeners for the low-level amplifiers, etc.

I saved the Westinghouse 7591s for a PP project and built a nice headphone amplifier for a friend, using the iron and some junkbox parts.

If you want to build a headphone amp, the 6T9 is a good place to start.

I too have the Wollensack with the 7591 tubes. Found 3 more of these at a yard sale and picked them up only to find that they were SS. Live and learn
