Anybody listen to Graz'd EMIM's?

I am awaiting my new Graz ribbons. He e-mailed me yesterday (or was it today? Is Australia ahead of the US or behind us in time zones?).I will keep everyone advised as regarding my adventures with them. By the way, there is a new Infinity forum at http://www.insidetechnology.eu/infinity/

I look forward to your listening experience review with the GEMIM. The highmid on your RS 1b covers the same frequencies as the IRS beta and delta/gamma. Wow! According to Max they do well in the lowmids too. Think any IRS V guys will go for the upgrade? Uh oh, this may cause trouble again.

I have not heard Graz's upgraded EMIM's, but I have installed two pair of his mid/tweeter ribbons on my Apogee Mini-Grands & Stages. I have both his XLM2's and his new XLM5's (which I think is the similar type of transducer he is using for the EMIMs, based upon his driver designation). First of all, these ribbons are a significant improvement from the original Apogee ribbon. I have a link to my quick review from the apogee user blog:

Second, Graz's workmanship is professional. You are purchasing a quality product. I can't speak for the EMIM's, 'cuz I haven't seen them, but based upon my experience with his work with the Apogee's, I don't think you'de go wrong. Here are some pix of my installation project:
So I hope all works out and you're able to upgrade your EMIMs. Graz does indeed makes really good ribbons! He certainly knows what he's doing. If any of you live in Las Vegas and want to hear my Apogee's, let me know!

Just got my EMIM's yesterday. Unfortunately, this is a really busy week for me, and I'm not sure when I'm going to get around to putting them in. I don't do that stuff unless I have plenty of time and patience. The ribbons are packed beautifully, and the fact that the packing doubles as a jig for mounting is a stroke of genius. BRILLIANT!!

Good idea not to rush things. I will repeat my word of warning from the now-deleted thread:
When handling the diaphragms, keep your fingers out of the area between the ribbons and the lexan frame. It is very easy to lose concentration for a moment and catch your finger on the edge of the ribbon, deforming it. I know this from experience...
That said, the rest of the install is simple and you shouldn't have any problems. Looking forward to your impressions!

Got my new Graz'd ribbons in place, and spent some serious listening time yesterday and today. Review will follow either tomorrow or the next day--to take some of the suspense out of it, I liked my speakers before, but I like them even more now!!

Graz EMIM's
I have just added 2 of the new Graz Emim's to my RS1B's and my brothers RS2B's. The installation was fairly straight forward requiring a few small mods to pass the new wires through the casing. My RS1B's already had 2 round holes in the casing but the RS2B's did not.
But you want to hear what they sounded like . I was a little nervous at first wondering if I had spent that money for nothing. Not the case! I noticed sound as if a veil had been removed. I could hear background vocal detail that I had not heard before. On one track I had only heard singers singing background vocals, now I can here it is a male and female doing harmony. Maybe I'm listening harder to justify my expense so I called my brother to see what he thought and he said- how much more would it be to do all my 2B EMIM's. There's your answer to that. They do look a little different but not noticable from a distance. I wish i could afford more.

The ribbons are pleated/waffled/ridged (whatever you want to call it - they have small folds in them).

They have flying leads that come off the back of the diaphragm right where the tabs are on the originals. In this way they can fit all the EMIMs with one diaphragm, since the shells have slots/holes in different places depending on the models.
The "modification" needed is extremely simple - a part of the slot where the tab normally goes through the shell needs to be opened up in a circular shape (i.e. a tiny hole drilled with a drill or awl) so that the round wire can pass through the slot. Once the wire is in you can't even see the modification of the slot. Then the wire from the crossover can be attached however you want, such as soldering, quick connect, etc.

If you look a little earlier in the posts on this topic you get a good view of an Apogee ribbon. The folds are the same as you see there. No doubt this may add to the flexibility of the ribbon without distorting the foil as you may have seen in many of the EMIM ribbons that have been driven very hard.

I feel guilty-I was going to do a full review but haven't gotten to it since I've got my house up for sale and we are moving, etc. etc., etc....
So here's a fast impression-my fear was that the ribbons would not merge with the Infinity EMIM. That was immediately put to rest. The character of the sound is the same-they merge beautifully-that said, I echo what the previous poster said about being able to hear into the sound field with more clarity. There is a depth added that is most significant-the other feature that I love is that they take power gracefully. There is no added distortion as the music gets louder. Yhere is no edge or unwanted hardness as the ribbons work harder.
There were times when I finished listening that I just shook my head in appreciation at, what to me, is a significant step towards reality.
I love these. I have placed them in the upper mid slots of my 1b's and they shall stay there. I loved my speakers before, I love them even more now.
Associated equipment-Audio Research LS-15, Krell KSA-250 for the mid/tweeter towers, two Bryston 4B's running mono on the woofer towers, DBX 223 crossover, VPI HW-19 MKIV, Trans-fi T-3 arm with Koetsu Urishi Blue cart., Sim Moon LP 5.3 phono stage, TT weights platter, clamp, peripheral ring, Sim moon CD player.
