ok so the other night after i did my pioneer sx1000tw i was feeling motivated so i reached for the most disgusting putrid thing in the stack, a very very sad technics sa 6400x quad receiver that i found in the bowels of my garage.
i dont even remember where i got this one or how it showed up in my garage like a bad nightmare. i sat it on the bench, plugged it in and threw the switch. to my surprise it came on and played great as-is.. it took me 3 straight hours of hellish cleaning and allmost a whole can of deox-it it shined up like a new penny!!:thmbsp::music:

Sweet lord, between the first picture and third, I wouldn't believe they where the same amp. I can imagine the effort, but man, it looks like it was worth it:thmbsp:. Cleaning can be a lot of work, I recently cleaned a friends keyboard, took about 2-3 hours, but the results make it worth it:yes:.

How does it sound?, or are you not there yet?
 
Cool looking unit! I like the orange lighting for all the buttons. Nice looking insides too, those are some hefty heatsinks.
 
yes this technics was totally worth it! it was one of the uglyest ive seen in quiet some time!!! and yes it sounds GREAT!!!! very loud and i love the old quad stuff.
 
Goes to show what potential lies under the dirt in some vintage gear. Very nicely done clean-up; that thing (now) looks great! :thmbsp:

Have you tried it in quad mode to see how well it decodes? :music:
 
Man, how big of a stack do you have in the garage? lol i can never seem to keep a large "fix it/clean it" pile.

What is this 2 of 50 batch 1 stuff? You have 50+ un-cleaned older receivers and amps in your garage that you are plowing thru from time to time? You stockpiling?

this is an older thread, at that time i was restoring a massive **** pyle of filthy gear from 10 years of poor storage conditions, they are all done now, in fact, this receiver is long gone..lol
