Help ID Coaxials

Found these local. Good solid enclosures with nice walnut veneer. No name. On back there is a pot to adjust tweeter and a pair of screw terminals. The driver has a cloth surround and a tweeter under a mesh grill. Any ideas? HomerJ thinks EV?

Looks exactly like the Realistic "Americana" (Utah) speakers I just found a few days ago...:dunno:
 
Vaughn is correct. These are Utah speakers that were sold both directly by Utah and re-branded for sale through Radio Shack stores. Some participants here seem to like some of the vintage Utah tri-axial and co-axial designs but I am not one of them. I would choose good quality vintage Jensen, Electro-voice, or Goodmans multi-way drivers over Utah sourced units any day of the week!
 
Note though, that the mesh grill on the Radio Shack coax is convex, whereas the one on the Utah is flat. I think the American series is later -- 67 pops in my head, without any justification. But I will say that I have an Americana series integrated amp that is solid state, though pretty early (or just badly done). So I would guess that the Americana label is a mid sixties rather than early sixties thing.
 
Could be Realistic, could be Lafayette, could be Utah - all made by Utah but sold under three brands.
 
I agree Utah. I sort of like the looks of it, but too much. He wants a Washington and two of his buddies, with a Sony CD changer and JVC receiver.
 
Utah OEM. Not very good sounding, unfortunately (several threads on the topic here if you look around a bit).
 
Gordon: what would you ewave -- the cabinets, using a different woofer also or just the upper frequencies of the Utahs?
