Fisher Electra VII console

I picked up a Fisher console today. From the picture I saw online, I thought for sure it was a Philharmonic console, but I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be a Electra VII! I totally don't have the heart to tear this thing apart because the whole thing looks so nice, it's one of the classiest looking consoles I've ever seen. It still has the Fisher inspection tags on the power cord even.

The unit uses a 481-A amplifier and a 590-T preamp/tuner. I think it sounds great, even though I didn't leave it on for long. I brought out some Sansui speakers to try out, and they sounded great too. The multiplex still appears to be working fine.

It has a little bit of buzz, and I want to replace the rectifier before I use it for too long. Does anyone know if there's a schematic out there for it?

The turntable (a Garrard AT-6 with a Pickering U38AT cart) kind of grinds away and it sounds like there's a bad ground somewhere. The unit had been sitting in some guy's basement for a few years and a lot of the connections got corroded. The guy I bought it from was the original owner, he said it set him back over a $1000 back in 1964. Seems pretty steep, but it's one of the nicer consoles I've seen.

Beautiful Modern CE VII! Interesting that it has the diamond weave slats that are shown on the Italian Provincial CE VII in the '64 catalog. Do you have the legs for it? It would look even better standing on its own legs. Buzz is good - usually easy to fix - bad power supply caps or bad input connections. My friend's 1966 hybrid CE had a bad wire in the tone arm that resulted in a loud hum in one channel. It's now in daily use after a little bit of very delicate soldering.
 
The turntable still buzzes like a fiend, but I hooked up another record player and it works, so at least it isn't the amp itself.I think the preamp has more punch than the ones in their receivers. The amplifier reminds me of their other stuff although it has a lot more emphasis on the bass.

yup - its still in the van (the van is in the garage though not outside in the hot hot sun)

I'm going to recap the power-amp ASAP.
 
it will get cathode resistors and an inrush limiter etc etc as well.

the TT and the tuner will get rebuilds as well.
Back to spec or better.

How about I bring my VIII and we can all listen to the differences between an ALL Tube and a HYBRID?

I love the lattice work on the VI.

The lattice is really cool and its not the way they showed it in the catalog.

The TT really needs some help too...
 
Definately AFTER. My Amp is done, as is the tuner.

The biggest problem with the TT's is the IDLER! Don't bother with Rejuvenator. Get a replacement or have it rebuilt. Terry's rubber rollers does them really nicely. The next biggest problem is the grease congeals into something resembling semi-solid concrete. Tear it down, clean everything and relube with White Lithium grease on all sliding and pivot points. Bearings and bushing will get light oil like turbine oil or light machine oil.
