Just picked up a pair of very cool Wharfedale w60c's. The woofs and mids are great. The tweeters are a problem and I'd like to stay with original if possible rather than replacing.
The glue has separated on the purple plastic tweeters.
One of the tweeters works (pics are of the non-working one). It's still wired but the voice coil is just resting in magnet - yet it works.
I'm thinking maybe I can just glue the plastic edges back down. How could I align the voice coil? Is there a high freq tone like is used to align vc's on woofers when re-foaming?
That leaves the 2nd tweeter. I'm thinking I can resolder the vc wire. It broke so it's not long enough. It looks like there's room to solder an extension because there's plenty of room under the plastic cone. Is there anything I should watch out for if attempting this?
I definitely want to try to restore them so I appreciate any advice.
btw - I had heard that Wharfedales had sand for weighting. In fact, the previous owner believed there was sand inside these. No sand, 1/4 plywood on both sides of 1/2" plywood for a full inch total. Very heavy and solid indeed.
