Looks just like my MA5002 on the insides! I think I'll try disconnecting each channel to see if I can get mine out of protect. I haven't even looked at it since I picked it up. Have you run one of these amps before, Dave?

A couple years ago .I refurb'd a MA5002 for AK'r Justrideit's brother.I got to play with it for a bit.BuKu power! My test speakers got literally, blown off the shelf:lmao::yes: Sounded great.:thmbsp:

When I was up to Doucanoe's "Cobblefest" AK'r Goat67 (AKA Jerry) gave me a copy of the service manual.

I need to get a good copy of the MA5002 manual. The Marantz 1180DC just isn't powerful enough for the Dahlquist DQ-10s, though it puts in a hell of an effort. I bet the Soundcraftsmen would wake them up though!

Well.It was actually two output transistors on channel A.Two 2SB554's..:scratch2:

Just happen to have a couple Onsemi MJ15025G's, more than adequate for testing purposes.. With both channels powered up ...

Sweet............DC offset on both channels < 2mv ..Nothing wrong with that.:thmbsp:

Hooked up to a preamp and a source. Amplifier unloaded , volume cranked up to the point of clipping...

Hooked this puppy up to my 690's ....Using Reneborg's refurb'd C-4 and my Cambridge CDP. Awesome!!

Yowzer.. 332.9 WPC before clipping @ 1Khz @ 8 ohm -- corrected output is probably closer to 288.7 wpc using a true RMS meter. The first reading was calculated RMS--my scope is probably way out of calibration. Measured RMS was 48.06 vac, calculated RMS was 51.6 vac..

Damn Dave, that was a quick fix! 290WPC, that works for me! I have a few of those 2SB554s that I just bought. Are those a transistor that are often faked? I got them from either MCM or B&D, don't remember for sure. I've been suspecting those in my amp, reading around AK led me to that conclusion. Sweet looking 5002 though, got that Vari-Portional system fired up in that clipping picture!

I got 316@8.6 ohms and 414@4.3 ohms @100Hz on the PA-5001 that I repaired. Only thing I noticed is that it didn't like low impedance loads. It would kick into protect constantly.

If you got them at BDEnt they are probably the real thing.Hope so at $10 a pop.

Oops, sorry Dave, it was 2SD424 subs I bought. On-semi product. Lots cheaper at about 3 bucks each. The schematic I found in one of Jerry's threads doesn't show 2SB554s in the MA5002. I got those On-semi transistors because I needed to make the $15 min order at B&D. :D

69 volts peak. 69 X .707 = 48.78VRMS guess my scope isn't that far off.
Just had to be a little more precise defining the" just before " clipping point.
more pixs.. Took a little longer.. The 300 watt load resistors started getting a little warm.
