I just picked this up at my local thrift store. Looks and works like new, the Garrard turntable works like a dream. It caught my eye because I collect mid-century items. Payed $20 for it! It has the original labels, cords and tags on the back. Anyone have a clue about it? Year it was made or what it is worth now?

Plan on keeping it forever, I love it that much.

Nice find. You should still do a recap, replacing all the wax-paper and electrolytic capacitors. They dry out over a few decades, loosing capacitance. Probably $40 in parts (including shipping) and a weekend with a soldering iron. Then it'll really perform like new, and without the danger of frying parts.
 
Look on the back and see if there is a large paper layout with Model #'s,etc., on it. Agree with relaximus, that it's a 62' Custom Electra V, Modern, in Mahoghany. Which would make the model# E-46X-M.

Do a recap, overhaul the Garrard(get all the old grease out and replace to start). And you think it sounds good now?? Just wait till you're done.

Yeah i'll work on getting some more pics up, show the back and the tags, show you how clean it is, it looks brand new!
 
I haven't done a recap on the console, its been nearly 2 years and it still works great. I wouldn't have a clue on how to work on it though I am somewhat of a mechanic, I know nothing about vintage tube electronics. I'll snap some images of everything and post. I figure that now is as good as any time to learn more about it!
 
Ears: Get into your profile and list your location. City, State, or even just northern side of timbuktu for example. You might have someone near you, that can give you a hand, or if you do something dumb a GIBB's Slap (if you watch NCIS......) :D

I would say you are probably skating on thin ice here. Even tho it's running, it's not running at full efficiency. Would you run a car on the original tuneup for 50,000 miles and expect it to smoke the competition? or Grandma on Sunday?? Same thing.

It's not a hard amp to work on. It took me 3 hours to do my '64 Electra (same basic amp) once I got the parts.

Recapping the amp involves, 2- 3 section can's, 2 molded .1uf, 4-.047 mylars. You can stuff the can caps or just put the individuals underneath, and replace the molded and mylars with films. The preamp (inside the tuner housing) is a little more involved but doesn't have that many more caps. Maybe 3-4 mylars, a 1/2 dozen or so 5000pf (.005 or .0047uf) ceramics, 1 or 2 lytics, and a 2 section lytic can. It's a bit tighter in there so do the amp 1st to get used to doing the work. This DOES NOT include TUNER CAPS. Don't screw with them unless there are problems with the tuner.
Probably about $30.00 total in parts @ mouser, plus shipping.
