What midrange, tweeter, and caps to use?

Hey AKers, i recently picked up some new cerwin vega e-715s. I need to replace some drivers anyway, so I figured i might as well put some nice components in the cabinets. Id like to avoid hacking up the cabinet if at all possible, but its not the end of the world.
First of all, they originally come with 5.25 inch mid range drivers. Does anyone have suggestions on which drivers i could use to replace these?

Second of all, I have been interested in the waveguide collaborative, and would be interested in using some of the selenium compression drivers, and possibly round horns?

Third, I dont really know much about crossovers, which value caps to use, etc. Im looking for suggestions on which values to use for a good sounding system. I know at least one reputable brand is jantzen. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Man, it looks like the QSC 152i waveguide (alternate "better" E-wave waveguide) MIGHT- I mean, just MIGHT- fit into the space where the mid, tweeter and L-pad level controls reside on the CV E715 baffles.

If, when you pull out the tweeter and midrange, the distance between the top of the tweeter cutout hole, and the bottom of the midrange cutout hole, is less than 10" (the vertical dimension of the QSC waveguide), it CAN be made to work. The QSC waveguide is roughly 10" tall by 14' wide... which should be a nearly ideal fit, as long as the above caveat about mid-tweeter hole spacing is met...

If you did that, there's already crossovers for that waveguide/driver combo (QSC 152i/Selenium D220Ti) worked out. Should be relatively easy to implement...

Admittedly, this would not at all be "not hacking up the cabinet"... in fact, it would require cutting about a 9x13" hole! But, if you can get beyond that, it could be spectacular sounding, I'd think.

I did a craptastic cut-and-paste... this at least could give you an idea of what it COULD look like... as long as the waveguide can cover up the holes:

It may require cutting some semi-circular pieces of wood, to fill in the bottom of the original mid hole and/or the top of the tweeter hole, to give the waveguide mounting flange somewhere to mount, where the top of the tweeter hole and the bottom of the midrange hole are now... but, that should be do-able... and, I think, all the raw wood inserts may well be covered by the horn flange, so all you should see would be finished cabinet around the waveguide...

Not bad in theory, eh?

I think if you converted to the waveguide as Gordon suggested you would be well pleased with the whole product- mid range and all. At the xover point of about 1.2 khz the midrange would be somewhat split between the woofer and mid horn. Both of them would reproduce that freq. quite well!! Good luck!!

Thanks again guys! I may just need a little more guidance as to where to find the right x overs, or what value caps to use. I'm definitely no expert on that sort of thing, I just know what my ears like haha. Thanks again for the help, and thanks for the laugh about "craptastic"

You would have to play around with the woofer section (since you have a different woofer), but I'd bet that would be great for the horn/driver combo and the high-pass (the part for the horn/driver) part of the crossover...
