Hi Friends,

I am a new member to this forum and am looking for a good audiophile entry level turntable...

What is your opinion about ProJect RPM 4?

A very fine turntable in my opinion! I prefer the sound of the Pro-ject range of decks to the comparable Regas and the RPM4 has the added bonus of looking fantastic too. The only downside is, to my eyes, it still doesn't look quite as good as the RPM6.

Go for it - you won't be disappointed! :thmbsp:

I curently run an RPM9 from Pro-ject. From past experience i've found that Pro-ject make some nice decks and they are always well made.

For the money i'd personally i'd go with the Rega as the resale price of those are better. Both the RPM4 and Rega are fine decks but i'm sure that you would be wanting to get something better before long. :)

From what I understand the RPM4 comes complete with an Ortofon OM510 cartridge. Whilst they are a reasonable performer (I had one in my Pro-ject 1.2 when I had it) it may be better to upgrade the stylus to that from the OM520 or even the 530 for better results.

Whatever you do don't forget to factor into the price a decent wall mounting shelf. It will give you the biggest jump in performance than anything else.
Regardless i'd be willing to bet that the RPM4 would be able to match upto CD players at almost twice it's price with no real issues.
