Garage sale find !!!

I just picked up a pair today, been checking them out all afternoon.

Interesting treble and mids control on the backs on the cabs.

These OLD !!! guys sure do sound good !, I hooked them up with a massive pair of fishers (also a garage sale deal) and they sound so good, the fishers were a touch dark and these guys sparkle like everything.

This has been the best year for garage sale finds for me !:music:

Agree with nosirrah. They DO have a sound of their own. And the WAF is :thmbsp::thmbsp:

SP-2000s and AS-100s here.

I love the sound of Sansui's speakers too. They sound really nice to me, a 'full natural deep rich real lifelike sound'. Very nice lows, great mids, and excellent highs. They sound like the way really nice big heavy Sansui box speakers are suppose to sound. And they have Alnico magnets!

People knock them, call em Kabuki, and I honestly could care less. Everyone' who comes over to my house and hears them likes them and they have even said it to me..."Wow! I remember 'that sound' from a long time ago!" That's right!! Kind of like the sound that is lost in todays speakers.

There's people knocking 'Alnico magnets' toooo. They say...there's no difference in sound. I beg to differ, but there is a 'major difference' in the sound quality of Alnico magents. But if they can't hear it...then regular magnets are just fine for them. Wonder why musicians all want and get old 1960-1970 Fender amplifiers with Alnico magnets???

I really love the Sansui speaker sound. Fills the house up with real nice sounds! I'm not lookin for any other speakers at all (except a minty untouched pair of Sansui AS-300s - the quest). I'm very happy and content with my Sansui speakers. Works for me. They sound complete.

40 years old and they 'still sound great'. "That's Quality". I would never even consider touching the insides of my 2000s. Put new caps in them??? 'No Way'. Why mess with excellent and a good thing? They sound just fine the way they are. (for now!) :>)

Should sound pretty nice as I have recently experienced the sp sansui speakers(I have some sp1000s).I have found out that they sound really nice on certain types music and so-so with others.Like most speakers I suppose.I love the alnico sound of the early sps.I run mine with a set of L100s and they compliment each other very well.
 
I can tell you as a guitar player and lifelong chaser of tone, Alnico's sound very much different than ceramic By far more musical sounding speaker.

The sansui's outshine the other four sets of vintage monsters I've found lately.
Thats why they are in the set to stay !!!

I agree about Alnico's for guitar. I love my Celestion Blues and have them for 2 of my amp rigs. I like them for their natural compression. Along with EL-84's I get that real spongy just on the edge of break up sound. However I wonder if the Alnico characteristics are desirable for hifi.
 
They are great speakers. I own SP-1700 and they sound amazing with my 9090DB!

I like the way you explained that: "Alnico's sound very much different than ceramic By far more musical sounding speaker". I totally agree. Alnico speakers 'are' far more 'musical'...that's why I love them. Guess the ceramic guys just don't hear that. Think I'll start a thread on Alnico Speakers in the 'speaker secton' and see what they guys have to say about them.
 
I love my SP-3500's. I do wish the woofer was a 15 inch instead of the 14 inch used and the cabinits were a tad deeper.
 
I will say its been a ton of fun collecting this stereo stuff at garage sales and plugging in.
I will have a total of about $60.00 in everythin when I'm finished and so far it sounds great !!!
Played my favorite (somewhat rare) SRV the sky is crying LP on the set yesterday, little wing darn near brings this big o dude to tears.
Getting rid of the little micro speakers and finding a good amp has really made a HUGE Difference in the sound.

Put those nice 14" woofers into a bigger cab and they can in fact produce some pretty decent bass:music:. That little cab that they're in now just plain strangles them.
