Straightening a bent TT a tonearm?

I'm sure it could be done(well, depending on what the arm is made of, let's
rule out carbon composites), but it would seemngly require a lot of patience.
What, exactly, are you dealing with, John?

Carve out a groove in the top of a Cork, the same Radius as the Arm. Place it under the Bend....Then CAREFULLY Press Down on the Arm where it is supposed to be bent...And Pray....Until it is Straight, or Cracked...Good Luck..
 
would be my thought: take out the sme-connect, desolder the armwiring, take out the armtube... play around with it... may be temperature helps, but due to it has vurves on both sides before the bend area.. I see little chance. Look for an armtube of any available cheapo with same length and angle to bone out :)
 
Exactly what I was about to suggest. Fiirst remove the headshell holder, then remove the tube from the pivot. Get the closest diameter spring type tube benders from the hardware and slide it over the arm. It might not go past the bend but should help return the tube to a circular shape as you bend it back. Keep slipping the spring tool over the bend as you go.
 
Anything can be done but it isn't going to be perfect. The tonearm is obviously going to have to be removed. There is no other way to remove the kink after straitening the arm. This is going to be difficult at best because of the double bend in the arm.

As you can see there is a a slight bend right at the beginning of the arm tube which was there originally. This is what makes it extra difficult because you can't just stick a strait piece into the tube while working out the dent.

i wish i could say that you can fix this but i donot think that arm will ever be right again. the tracking force and vta are lost forever. IMHO

Aah, there is the key. This tool is made for the job. Exactly what I was thinking and I wouldn't think of doing it on the TT.

Advanced 'Two Hand Cork Method'..Place a small C-Clamp across the Kinks on the sides of the Arm...Then Press Down with One Hand while Tightening the Clamp with your other Hand...It helps to be Handy to do This Right...
 
Looking at the way that arm is bent I can't help but have concern for the arm pivot bearings. Would have been under some kinda stress.
 
Thanks for the replies, I will see if it comes apart easy. It had a good Ortofon LMB12 cart on it with a good stylus.:thmbsp:

I was thinking of using a small clamp and wood blocks? The sideway alignment looks OK, its just the up and down that is bent. Looks like someone tried to lift the TT up by the tonearm.:tears:

I'd get another Armtube.. This tube will never look good again.
I had seen a lot lose Armtube in my life, seems that they were just glued in.
I'd take off the Headshellkonnector, desolder, thake a grip and turn it - may be heat it up a bit a few cm before the end - to get it out.

And - I wouldn't do anythin with strength as long the arm hangs inside the bearing..

OK, I checked a little bit further, the arm is binding in the sideway motion?

May have more damage than 1st looked at.

Motor works OK.
