My new Fisher 1800!!

I scooped this up for a whopping $200.00!:banana: All it needs is a new tuner string, it's broke:tears:. I put in new coupling caps and brought it up on the variac. WOOOOW does this thing sound sweet! It has Telefunken smooth plates throughout the whole receiver! I already ordered a matched quad of 7591's as two of the tubes tested weak. I was able to get the tuner to get stations in crystal clear by manually moving the tuning knob on the side! I was confused when changing the coupling caps as they were .047UF, but two of them were rated at 630v and two rated at 400v?? Was someone hitting the bottle when they put those in or what? They definitely were the originals :wtf:? Anyway, here ya go, some pics of my new baby!:music:

I don't like you anymore. :D Amazing score, those 1800s are really rare! Every Fisher 500C/800C I've ever seen had the .047uF 400 and 630V coupling caps in it. I'd replace them with .1uF 600 or 630V. Get that thing fully restored, and enjoy. You have a Fisher treasure.

Ah, the 800C with unusual styling!

If you're getting new production 7591s, do some research here first. You need to change out the coupling caps for .1uF and the 330k resistors to something more like 220k.

You're absolutely right. They sound spectacular. And they really are quite rare. That was a heck of a price, too!:thmbsp:
 
Awsome find. Didn't know there was a 1800 fisher.

Does anyone know the story on these? Looks similar to a 500/800C. Going to look in my 67 catalog
 
After Fisher's product line included the first of the solid state equipment, understandably the sale of tube gear took a nosedive. Nobody wanted the "old school" stuff. So, in a marketing attempt to spiff up the last of the tube gear, the Fisher 800-C was upgraded with a new faceplate that had the same colors and style as the new 500-T and 700-T receivers.

As far as I know the 800-C was the only one done this way. I know there are rumors that a "1500" exists, but I've never seen one nor heard of any validation that one has been seen. I've never even heard rumors about a "1400", so I assume the 400 was never upgraded either.

The 1800 is one of the rarest of all Fisher tube receivers. They apparently sold very, very few of them. They come up for sale on eBay perhaps once a year.

Good choice, that's what's in my "normal" 800-C. Teles would be much nicer, I imagine, but also MUCH more expensive. ;) Congrats on a really nice find, & I hope that tuner string goes pretty easy for ya. :thmbsp:
 
count three! i scored one last year on cl. paid $200 for it, the seller tossed a turntable with it. basically a fisher 800c with a half black faceplate

Actually, I don't know if they did or not, now that you mention it. :scratch2: Who made the original Fisher-branded ones? Now that you have me thinking about it, I have 2 Fisher-branded ones that I've never even tested yet, had them far longer than I've had a tester, lol. The bases are pretty crumbly from age & heat, so "if" they test good at all, they'd need some work. I'll have to look into this soon. :yes:

the FISHER 7591's are most likely rebranded Westinghouse's. As are most of the American Brands. I've got a quad of EICO Branded Westy's I keep as spares.

Hey what year is the 1800? My 67 catalog still shows the 400/500/800. Was the 1800 ever in a catalog or handbook?
 
It has the same basic styling as my 500TX so I'd say probably 68-69. Haven't seen a catalog yet for those years.

It's not in the 66, 67, 68, or 71 catalogs. There is no longer any tube gear listed after that. I don't have a 69 or 70, so it might be in one of those, but my guess would be that it never made it into a catalog.
