Well, an overall pic might help. But, it would appear to be a SE 6BQ5 Magnavox of some flavor. The side-firing woofers are my first clue. The "1SBxxx" model number is a new one on me, but it somewhat fits with the Maggie naming convention. The chassis size suggests that it's a, somewhat, compact console model that is (perhaps) a quite early stereo piece ('58-'59). The problem I'm having is that chassis size. I've had a SE 6BQ5 based Maggie console from '60 pass through here, and that chassis was (at least) 1/3 again larger. More pics please.

I've only ever seen a 'loudness' knob instead of 'volume' on Maggies in my limited experience.
I pulled the amp out and took some more pictures of it. It really sucks that the stamp with the amp model number is messed up. Could you guys help me identify it and maybe find a schematic? What would I need to do to use it as a stand alone amp? Is it horrible to use the amp alone if I keep the console in storage? I don't have room for it right now but I don't think it would be good to chuck it as it seems like a decent piece of furniture.

FWIW, back up in the OP on about the 4th pic down there's a paper tag at the bottom of which it says "RETMA 232", that kinda screams Magnavox.

Where's it say those tubes are made? The writing looks different than any Magnavox "made in great Britain" Mullards I've seen, or US tubes...am I hallucinating or do I see something like "West Germany" on there..? :scratch2:
FWIW, thats chassis model 196-10. Thats really really strange that it doesn't say magnavox anywhere else on the unit other than the tubes, not even on the name tag, even though it is clearly a magnavox! Strange!

I had googled RETMA it stands for Radio Electronics Television Manufacturers Association. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RETMA_tube_designation
holy crap you're right! :thmbsp: could those be magnavox labeled telefunkens? hey redm18, do us a favor and pull one of those "made in germany" tubes and look at the bottom of it, dead center between the pins. is there a diamond <> shape molded in the glass?
the RETMA reference pertains to a numeric identifier given to each manufacturer. each manufacturer had a numeric code that ID's them and theres a chart to cross reference what code is what manufacturer.

FWIW, Columbia had a very similar model to this unit that utilized the magnavox 196 amplifier and a similar tuner, but I would think that it would actually say Columbia on it. :scratch2:

THATS a new one! We knew of Magnavox sourcing a lot of tubes from the Blackburn Mullard factory back then (great tubes!) but not Telefunkens! Hang on to those output tubes and don't break them, they are worth some dime and probably sound excellent if they are good! I just learned something today. This topic is getting weirder every minuite...:scratch2:
