Couple of weeks ago we were in town to pick up an empty console from another AKer. My wife's aunt heard about it and asked if I'd want an old 'stereo cabinet' that's in her garage that her husband was going to make a bar out of it but never did.
I've been in her garage quite few times and never noticed any console there, but there is a lot of stuff, so maybe I over looked it. In any case, we've got the back of the Jeep filled with the other one, so we'll look at it next time... he died over 25 yrs ago, so it'll keep for another few weeks.
Since then, I've been thinking about what this thing might be. They always bought higher-end stuff and I know there's a nice Magnavox console in the living room that she still uses for the radio. I'm seeing Fishers, Scotts, maybe Grundig (they're German).
This week we were back in town and she asks me to come see why her tv isn't working right... she's been confused ever since we had to put the DTV box on it. After straightening that out, I nonchalantly walk into the garage. I don't see anything that looks big enough. She says it's in the middle of the floor under some black plastic and boxes. I start removing stuff off the only pile in the middle and I can see something wooden at the bottom but it doesn't look big enough to be a console.
Eventually I uncover a walnut case about 48" long by 30" wide but only 12" thick laying flat on the floor with the masonite back facing up. I'm thinking an upright radio, but when I start reading the back I realize it's a TV! Awfully thin for a tv I think.
So I stand it up on it's end, as one of the legs looks a little weak. It's a B&W GE TV in a really sharp '60s looking cabinet in very good shape. I'm impressed by how thin and narrow the whole thing is, but I have no use for this... unless it's got tubes?
There are at least a dozen hex screws holding the back on and only a pair of pliers to remove them. It's 95 deg in the garage and I'm already soaked so I might as well keep going. I' finally get the back off and see that the narrow end of the picture tube is dangling... broken off. But it does have tubes, and a lot of them!
The model # is unreadable but there is a tube diagram.

The few tubes I can see easily are GE and at least one of the larger ones is an RCA. I spent the evening googling and so far only find the 6BQ5 of some audio use... apparently an EL84 sub?
I have no use for the tubes or the TV, but before she throws it out, I thought I'd check here to see if anyone knows if there's any use for these, audiowise.
