Sansui SR-1050E Belt?

I recently picked up a pretty rough* Sansui SR-1050E. I've so far determined that it works but it needs a fair amount of TLC right down to either major plinth repair or perhaps a new plinth (which would be a fun project).

Anyway, my specific question: the belt that came with it was either the wrong one from the get-go or horribly stretched so of no use. The online sources that list a belt for this table specify conflicting belts. All say that a 25" belt is correct and, while several sources list a wide belt, one source specifies a medium.

I have a 25" medium on another turntable so I gave that a try. The table runs fast.

Does anyone know firsthand what the correct belt for this table is? I read a comment in an old thread that Sansuis use wider than normal belts but the comment also said that a normal width (medium?) makes the deck run slow. I'm confused.

*The attached photos are after considerable work to the deck, platter, dustcover and internals. The plinth is the only area still needing attention.

According to my neighbor hood electronic store, the belt is a 25mm.
It does not specify whether it is wide or medium.:scratch2:
I just call them to check.:music:
It is available ( in stock ) for $5.40 before tax.
Too bad that I don't have a Sansui belt drive unit to try one on for testing.

Thanks. Yes, the 25" length (I take it that's what you meant) is what everyone agrees upon, and what fits per my own experiment, but the width is still a question mark.

If your local source has both a wide and a narrow in stock, and at that price, It would pay me to buy one of each and see which fits best. My local sources are in the $20+ range. :tears:

When I talked to the owner of the store, he said 25MM.
I will stop in at the store on Monday (not open on Sunday ) and see in person what the belt(s) looks like.
If there are two different configurations available, I will get both.:yes:

That would be great! Thanks! I'm sure the owner misspoke. Twenty-five mm is just shy of an inch. That doesn't work either for width or length. ;)

Well, she's pretty well finished!

All I need to do now is get a more appropriate headshell or find a finger lift arm for the original. It came out very well, I think and it sounds pretty nice too.

I've attached a photo to this post as well of the 'Sui deck playing a little jazz.

Very Nice! Awesome plinth repair. I like the "J" arm, similar to the Akai I did. Enjoy your music!
