Surround Sound Help

I'm tring to piece together a SS System. I have purchased a set of Bose Acouticmass speakers with subwoofer but have not yet purchased an Amp. I'm told that Denon is the best way to go. I'm not a tech guy so I'm wondering what my options with Denon for under $300 (used) or for a different brand that will give me more options for less $. Our living room is small so we don't need anything too powerful - just crisp sound. Any ideas? :smoke:

Denon has a couple of models in your range (an 160X and 180X I think). I also saw this week a Yamaha at one of the big chain stores (Circuit City or Best Buy) for $179. I can't speak for either brand, but I've researched both recently, and both are highly regarded. Pioneer also has some good receivers.

imo i would watch for denons on ebay and get one there.They are very good for both ht and music.I am biased a little because i have one, but i also have a kenwood and did a years worth of research before buying my denon 4802. just my opinion
 
Well, sorry to say, but you're not gonna get crisp sound from any amp with Bose Acoustimass speakers. (Do a little Google searching for reviews if you wanna know what I mean.) But, as far as recievers go, I also second the votes for Yamaha and Pioneer, and you might also want to consider Onkyo. They have plenty of decent stuff in that price range.

... although they don't have the widespread name recognition nor the ability to impress friends who know only the Bose name from TV and print advertisments, your money would have been much better spent on an Athena Micra 6* setup as opposed to the Bose setup. Any Denon receiver, even the least expensive, will suffice for your needs.

Check out Onkyo too. Right around the same price range as the Denon stuff. They put up some impressive numbers for the price too. Hell, you can pick up an Onkyo TX-SR502 for less than 300 NEW and that has GREAT reviews! Very impressive specs too.
 
gotta second that.. ive had the 502 for about 6 months and am very impressed,,,excellent build quality and sound quality for the buck
 
I've got a Yamaha RX-V990 5.1 that I bought on ebay for $86.00. Probably the best buy I ever made. However, a word of caution - the next in the series is the RX-v992 which has a digital processor built in. I had to buy a Technics add-on and paid more ($125.00) for that than I did the receiver. Yamaha has excellent sound.
