Mid-Dome Tinsel Wire Repair

Super Member
After much thought and alot of asking questions, and after being turned down a couple of times by pros I decided to try fixing my 2 , make that 3 broken Tinsel wires on my QLS1s today. My eyes aint as good these days so on advice from
another AK member I decided to run over to the local office supply and pick up a lighted magnifier and a exacto knife. and some Stripeeze for softening the coating. I came home finished watching the UT game and started the repair. Not having the most steady hands after the torture of the game, this was kinda therapy for me(LOL) Be advised the results may be a bit sloppy but I now have a perfect set of QLS1s (Everything Works)
And the cost was very little and I know how how to fix these now without the risk of shipping a hard to find part.
Here are some shots of my middomes before and after. The glue I added for strength and it dried clear after a bit. I would like to thank everyone who helped on this. I checked the ohms on a working middome and it was 7.2 ohms. My 2 repaired drivers checked out at 7.1 and 7.2 ohms and are working fine.

are you implying that Carcel turned you down? ****. i'm pissed off about the AZ game right now -- send me a PM, i may be able to help you out in a small but significant way.

Interesting that you were able to get a good solder on the wire from the outside of the dome as I always removed the four screws and made my solders on the back side of the domes. On a side note, if you remove the four screws and pull the dome from the motor you should be able to use your finger and push out the dent on the dome. I always used a knife to scrape away the brown glue to get to the orginal wire as I was afraid to use any solvents to remove that brown glue as I didn't want it to get on the orginal black dope they used on the dome.but it looks like you had no problems. I have done about 20 of them and out of that lot I was was unsuccessful on two of them to get a clean solder due to the residue interfering with a clean solder.

Are you saying you replaced the whole wire ? I considered taking one of these all the way apart but decided to (not) break the connection on the good side., Although one of my domes ended up needing both wires repaired because it had a hidden break .
