Often, I find myself traveling with time to see live shows, yet I don't know the clubs and venues. Recently, I was in Chicago with a group of people looking for something to do at night. Unfortunately, I didn't hear about a Jazz club nearby where Patricia Barber was playing the night we were "out on the town" with a limo at our disposal, until after I left town!

What I propose is a list of clubs/venues to check for events for people traveling or even locals.. So please, if you know of a good club or venue that has quality musical experiences, PLEASE POST IT HERE! (I will update this post with additions from the thread). The intent is to create a list of smaller venues to see Jazz, Blues and Acoustical music... The major venues get enough attention already.. This NOT intended to be an endorsement of the venues or the performances.

The Triple Door - Nice acoustics, awesome sound system, and folks who know what they're doing running things. The food is pretty good too. It's expensive, but worth it.
The Sunset Tavern - A small place, but intimate and nice sounding. It's never stupidly loud. Fast and friendly service at the bar no matter how crowded it is. Plus it's in my neighborhood.

Edmonton, Alberta-Blues On White sometimes called The Commercial (it's in the Commercial Hotel). Don't stay at the hotel! Can be a rough place, but the bouncers know how to take care of business.
The Yardbird Suite for jazz, when it is open. It is more of a jazz society club with limited hours. Sometimes has great blues as well. I saw Jimmie D Lane and Billy Boy Arnold there.
The Sugarbowl is a small coffee shop that sometimes has acoustic music. I saw Honeyboy Edwards there. There was in the neighborhood of 40 people in the place.

Good list Carl. I was going to mention there are gazillions of places to see live music in the Bay Area and to list them would take forever. That list is kinda confusing and seems to mainly list SF area/North Bay venues.

Here are a couple from a bit down in the South Bay.
Shoreline, Montalvo Arts Center, Mountain Winery, HP Pavillion, JJ's Blues, Poor House Bistro.

Another list of the "bigger" concert venues. The list of clubs is endless.

Good point on the South Bay listings, the Marin coverages. Even if you search by city it seems like there should be more than what's listed.

Gosh, Pat's been holding court there (The Green Mill, yes?) since the mid 1980s. That's quite a run she's having.
