Fisher Speakers

EIA Code: 1056 146

From a 990-A console with a 800-B receiver "The Executive". The crossovers (w/ presence control) look like they were added later by a Hi-Fi enthusiast, but I don't know for sure.

Anything special about these speakers?

Holy cripes! The small speakers are AR2 mid-tweeters- or at least dead-ringers for them!

Woofer looks to be a fairly standard Fisher- sort of a clone of the EV SP12B, from the looks of it.

719 EIA code (first three digits of the date code) indicates manufacture by Carbonneau, of Michigan. Carbonneau was indeed the manufacturer of the AR2 midrange/tweeter driver as well, so it's very likely these are either the same as, or a variant of, the AR2 driver.

The "XP-4" on the second pair of drivers is a strong indication that the drivers were made for Fisher XP-4 speakers... which were circa about 1962 or so. Given that the rest of the date codes (103, 117, 129) indicate manufacture dates between the third and 29th weeks of 1961, that certainly seems consistent in time...

I was surprised as well. People didn't usually DIY with AR drivers (outside of Heath-built, of course).

Says something about their speaker design... :thmbsp:
