Let me introduce you all to ...

My new Fisher futura tube console. Before ya all go awe a console let me tell you that this what I belive to be a near or TOTL model. As much as I cant stand consoles I have to respect this one. I belive it dates from around 1960-62. I have run across Fisher brand consoles before but nuthing like this ! This ones all original and came from Avery Fisher's place just as you see it wood and all. Even the Turntable is marked Fisher but after a bit of snooping I found the Miracord label. Ive been asked if im gonna gut this one and for no the answer is a resounding NO. I feel it has a bit of historic value and should stay intact ( see I have atleast one moral :p: ) Its amp is suprisingly large at about 33 Wpc. yup its stereo and has the Multiplexer. My wifes gonna kill me ...

The side doors slide open to reveal the all Fisher brand speakers.
 
There was even a bonus tucked inside the cabinet. A set of Fisher headphones with the box. There's even some paperwork such as a sheet to list all your FM stations and a few other odds and end.

Ummm, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unless there is a chassis you haven't shown in the pictures, that isn't 33 WPC. If the bottom chasssis has a single 6BM8 per channel, and those two small transformers on the left are the output xfmers, this rig is more like 3.3 WPC peak power, less in RMS.

Nice rig though. :)

I pulled that info right outta the owners manual. Says 65 watts total power. You gotta split the 65 in half for fishers. I do think your right and theres prolly somehting hidden beside the right side rear behind the panel. This thing weights to Damn much to not to have something else lurking in there.

I guess you gotta stop bitching about those "console" calls now!! I'm surprised you actually made the trip to go see it. Congrats though cause it is beautiful. I'm not gonna ask you what you paid for it cause it'll only piss me off.

Found out why its rated at 65 watts..It a hybrid theres output transistor in it... :mad:

I never noticed before but I was only looking for tubes. The chassis on the lower left looks like it has two big heatsinks and what could be power transistors underneath ventillation holes in a chassis cover. You must have a hybrid set there, all tubes up to a SS output stage. In this case those two smallish transformers on the far left could be driver transformers from what look like output tubes to the power transistor banks. In this case 33 WPC would be realistic.

I recently went to a hamfest and found a homebrew amp that contains "The Fisher" PA301 Hybrid IC power amplifier modules. If that's what's inside yours, please let me know, since I haven't been able to find out anything about these modules (including from The Fisher Doc!)

Still have this beast? Can you post the pics you took again? I just aquired myself a Fisher console myself, and I'm reading through the archives. Mine's a 69-T chassis. Anybody know much about it? I DID get the S.M with it, but I'm curious about its lineage. I have yet to pick it up. Prolly this weekend. I'll post pics after.
 
I ain't gettin no pics, but I'd bet the transformers are interstage. Are the tubes 6HU8s? Those old Fisher Hybrids are darn good amps, and pack plenty of punch. Wish I could see the pics, Jay
 
Hey Grump, I picked up a Fisher Ambassador VI console on a CL deal this past spring, and it's also a hybrid - tube everything, except outputs. Mine was built in '63. Believe it or not, my wife was the one who wanted it! :saywhat: Absolutely beautiful piece of furniture, and actually sounds halfway decent as well. Good to have you in the club! :thmbsp:

That's a beauty. The Fisher Ambassador was my first tube anything. An upgrade in the speaker components really helped mine in the sound dept. You guys might want to snag a couple spare 6HU8s too, as the NOS ones seem to be getting hard to find and more pricey everyday. Oh, and try some Mullards in the 12AX7 spots.:music: Jay

Yep - good advice, I think. Most of the tubes are original Fisher brand, and I suspect they're pretty weak. One of these days, I'll dust off the old tube tester and see what I need to start hunting for... besides those Mullards, that is! :yes:
