This past weekend, I picked up a Denon set because I really wanted the 37F turntable, BUT, it also included an absolutely beautiful set of ADS L880's with original boxes/manual, etc.

Behold the pics!

Not going to replace my Maggies, but still a very nice set for sure.

I've got the ADS speakers that are one down and one newer, the L780/2 and I really like them. I'm sure I'd like the L880s more.

Nice score!

John

Only have them hooked up through my HT system at the moment, but they do sound quite good. Have not really taken the time to do any critical listening at this point.

Very nice!

I have a pair just like them and they sound great. Those look like the teak finished cabinets. Mine were scratched all to hell, so I had to refinish them, but your's look nice. Glad you don't have to refinish your pair. They took weeks of applying layers of teak oil, that was after all the sanding I had to do first. Now they're both enjoyable to listen to and to look at.
I have two other sets of speakers, but the 880s are staying in rotation for a while. They are just very 'listenable'. Enjoy your great find!

Larry

Congrats on a great find!
Always been a big fan of the ADS styling, especially the metal grill models.
I have LS420s that are no match for the L880s.

Man those are in killer shape! Nice find!! How much did you pick them up for??

With a PMA-737 amp, TU-676 tuner, CD player and cass deck, plus the piece I really wanted, the DP-37f turntable w/Signet TK5Ea cartridge..... $200 and each had all original boxes/manuals.

Oh lordy that's QUITE a find!! If you ever want to sell them, let me know I may snag them from ya

Nice deal. Those speakers are in nice shape. I like miss my ADS 910's, I just began searching for a replacement tweeter. Congratulations.

Since I also have several brochures, I figured I'd scan them and post here. Below is one page, but all pages take up a lot of space, so just send me a PM with your email address if you would like the whole brochure and I will email it to you.

I hooked them up to my main system this evening and listened to several sources. Not sure what I am hearing, but on occasion, I hear some sort of "static" type sound which is the best way I can describe it. It seems to happen at a certain frequency in the midrange??? I'm not yet positive I really am hearing something that is not supposed to be there, but anyone else ever experience this in an ADS speaker? Could it be a faulty cap? It is not loud, in the background somewhat. I took off the grill thinking it was vibration, but it was still present. Will given them some more time, but wanted to post some initial thoughts.

Outside of that, they are quite solid performers. Not as "in your face" as I was expecting, good sound stage, but not "amazing" like the Maggies/Vandersteens, but then again, they cost much less new. I was listening mostly to rock though and at this they seemed to excel. Will try some different genres over the next few days and post more thoughts.
