SL-1700 plinth material?

Hi,

What is the SL-1700 Plinth made of? Plastic or Metal, reason I am asking I am on my way to get the paint. I bought Rustoleum the 1st time and I am thinking this is wrong?

If it's the same aas the 1200, yes. That's an alloy/composite sandwich with a hard rubber base (I think). If so, the paint would be applied to the alloy.

John I used Rustoleum on my one 1800MKII and on my 1700MKII. The best finish I got was using the Rustoleum and a clear Lacquer vs just the Rustoleum finish. The Lacquer finish after several coats took on that deep high gloss finish where as the non one had more of a semi or light gloss to it......... but I'd say if you haven't purchased the paint yet to forget the rustoleum and pick up some duplicolor paint as it will give you a much better finish.......... with a lot less work.........
 
My 1700 plinth is some sort of metal and the bottom is pressed metal as well.......i have a Technics linear tracker that the base is made of that heavy composite stuff but the 1700 is metal at the bottom......

Thank You for that info. I bought the Rustoleum but, I can return it for the proper paint.

To add to my previous post. When I used the rustoleum I got a lot of Orange peel and had to really work with it and apply several coats, do to sand through on the edges......... I learned as I went a long hence a better paint job on the 1700MKII vs the 1800MKII.
 
Good surface prep will help prevent orange peel, use something like 3m Adhesive and Wax remover first. I did my first in gloss red with ceramic engine paint. Color sanded the heck out of it till the gloss matched a new Ferrari. Too bad my cat did'nt like it, so after sanding out the scratches it's now flat black.

The inner base I have is made of steel/metal, it has Rust on it? Not important. So the top is aluminum, thats what I needed.

I will shoot the primer today..:scratch2:

:scratch2:It may be the Mark I SL-1700 used a different material - the brochure I had was for the Mark II version, and they may have decided TNRC was a better material than aluminium for the inner base, and changed it.

Yes it is different on the 16,17 and 1800MKII tables..........

Here is something I just noticed and wondered about. The arm base is painted the same color as the plinth on these NON MKII tables/ Are you going to leave it the stock color or paint that as well?

I am trying to get a color that will look nice with the arm base, or I will have to paint that too. A lot of masking there.

Decals.. Do I put on the decals, then spray on the clear or give it one coat of clear, then decals and 2nd coat of clear?:scratch2:
