Screw it - these are MY speakers and I don't like the sound of them one bit. I would have sold them but one one of the intricate grills fell apart on me so I don't think they are really worth much anyway. I will sell the drivers and use the basically worthless cabinets - might as well enjoy them. The previous owner (unfortunately deceased) would HIGHLY approve of what I am doing - he was an EE and a tweaker.
Take a look at the Duffenators project for more details as I am doing the same thing http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=136160 only using a different cabinet to start with. I will also be using the 2235H woofer.
Here is the start of the project. I spent about 30 minutes disassembling the cabinet down to the shell. Mine might be a Monday morning or Friday afternoon special but this thing was barely held together with a few brads and about 30 drops of glue. No wonder they were rattling with the 2235H loaded to see what they sounded like. No effort what so ever was made to seal these cabinets or make them ridged. They even used particle board (not MDF) on the rear and bottom. They will be radically beefed (think 1-1/2" walls) up and braced over the next few weeks.
