3 pF 200V NPO Ceramic Capacitors ideal for your Sansui amps

Just thought I'd let people know that I just bought some of these caps off ebay to replace the notorious unreliable black flag compensation caps in Sansui Amplifiers such as the AU-919 and AU-X1 etc

Most of the ceramic NPO caps sold these days are only 100 Volt which is cutting it a bit to fine for an AU-919 with +/- 55Volt rails.

These caps on ebay are good quality AVX brand with CO(G) dielectric so have a good temperature coefficient and tolerance which is perfect for this type of application.

For other parts of the amp such as the gain and RIAA preamp stages which use 6 pf caps you just need to parallel two together.

You are talking about those black squares on the pre-driver board? Mine look like they have taken some heat at one point and time in the AU 919.

Yes I believe they are the ones. I'm trying to find a picture of the board but can't seem to find one. In any event they are the ones marked 3 pF or 6 pF on the circuit diagram.

Apparently they go open circuit and the amplifier becomes unstable and blows the output transistors

Black Flags

Yes. Very annoying that everyone says "look out for those black flags!!" but no one has posted a picture of one
