The main filter capacitor of my Marantz 1250 failed a couple years ago and I finally replaced it. Since the 1250 is using the dreaded "dual core" capacitor type, there was some construction work involved. Here is how I did it.
Since digikey doesn't stock 14000uf+ capacitors slim enough to fit in the available space, I chose four 12000uf Panasonic TUP.
1 - The original capacitor is held with a bracket and 3 screws, so I first cut a base plate. (Images 1 & 2)
2 - I then cut and prepared a curcuit board plate on which the new capacitors will be mounted. (Image 3)
3 - both plates were then aligned and drilled together to allow the installation of plactic risers. (Images 4 & 5)
4 - I soldered the capacitors to the curcuit board, and added the wires (Image 6)
5 - I installed everything into the Marantz. Images 7 & 8 (see next post)
It is a tight fit, but this great amp is finally back in the living room!
