Lizard84's System

Magnepan MMG's
Magnepan MMGC
Boston Acoustics A100 Series III surrounds
Advent New Advent Loudspeakers stacked with woofers together feeding 80hz down.
Yamaha RXV667 for Pre amp and surrounds, two sub outs input into Yamaha HTR-5940 in straight setting feeding the stacked Advent's.
Yam 667 front and center pre outs feeding Emotiva XPA-3 to the Maggie's.
Apple TV

Still in adjustment and fine tuning phase of settings but it's going to be a fun trip because anything from live Dead to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon to Paolo Nutini sounds really good.

Picture is junk, I'll take better ones with better lighting at some point.

Thanks, a turntable and a oppo are on my short list. I only have about a 150 albums but I'd like to start using them again. Listening to mostly flac & 320 bit Mog now.

Wow! 150 LPs is way more than I have. I stopped buying in the late 80s, so I have a lot to catch up on. Enjoy!

Not really that many, except when you have to move...

I've started digging them out and it's closer to 200. I started buying a lot around 1974 and hit the cut out bin hard, always seemed to find a lot of gold in the bin. The hard part has been keeping my wife from throwing them out during a few moves over the years.

Sorting out continues, Using Large Advent's for filling in the lows via second receiver not working out. It didn't sound terrible, just wasn't doing the job.

So those are out and going on the block on Craigslist, no room for them and I have to keep the peace.

I don't have a good sub so I know I'll have to get one and will at some point.

Notice I said I don't have a good sub? I was forced to pull out my bad sub, a MTX SW2 with the results most of you would expect, bad.

All was not lost however, I opened up the sw2 to take a peak, no fill, none. I added some fill.
I stuck a sock in it, yes you heard right, I stuck 3 socks actually to tightly close one port for no venting and 2 socks in the other that allows a small amount of
venting, that and some gain adjustment and the shit sub was transformed to mildly smelly.

The results do not make a great sub but the bass was much tighter and works much better with the speakers and I can live with the setup until I get a sub I lust for.

Also added Cambridge Audio Azur 551P.

Major room change, moved from old beach cottage to a waterfront condo we just purchased. Room will present some challenges(went from about 12.5 x 22 to 15x15) that I have not had time to address yet. Going to add some wall treatments/traps sometime this year.

Added a Parasound 2100 preamp, it sounds wonderful, I probably will still have some internals in it upgraded later this year.

Had a awesome tape deck tech in the Clearwater area go over my reel to reel, he replaced 24 transistors from the Akai 2sc458's to 2sc1740's and preformed a general test & tune. The Akai sounds great.

Still want a better sub, that may have to wait until I acquire an Otari R2R I'm lusting after.

nice. i think stepping up to a decent or better preamp makes a system. i just replaced the output caps in mine and it made worlds of difference for minimal dough.

Thought I throw in a view pic from the the listening room's deck, doesn't have the grandeur of John's city pic but it doesn't suck.

Digging the setup. Maggies have a heck of a unique sound and that Emotiva looks like a brick-shit house. Way to go!
