This is where I listen to music. A mix and match affair equipment wise. BPC in the middle: Dual CS-731Q with Grado cartridge , Yamaha C45 preamp, Kenwood CD-206 CD changer, Sony CD recorder. Outboard from there a pair of Fisher 50A monoblock tube amps. And in the corners, mid 50's Klipschorns. The real star of the system? The room! I always wanted a large listening area, and at 25' x 25' with 15' peak ceiling, it doesn't disappoint. Sound just seems to propagate through a large room in a different manner.... one that I like!

The system is always in flux. Sometimes my Denon TT does the spinning. Also, have a set of IMF TLS-80 speakers just off the sides of the fireplace. Right now I'm auditioning a set of Wharfedale W60E speakers (sitting up on top of the Klipschorns)

Obviously the fireplace layout is temporary. As soon as I buy some fireplace glass doors, etc. all the stuff in the middle is gonna' have to be relocated.

Oh, and the reason I have the Fisher amps with the tubes facing away from the room ? Kids.

please let us know how the wharfedales work out. i'd be interested to know how they come across in that excellent room w/the tube setup. thanx.
 
Now that is a listening room. Beautiful. Not to mention Fisher 50 watt mono block feeding K-Horns...:drool:

I need to get my Big Azz Ev's and Allen 75's done:dammit:

I'll never have a room that size though...:sigh:

That fireplace is WAY too clean! With the winter we have had that bad boy should be put to use. Really nice system and room, I bet those vintage KHorns sound great in there, enjoy.

Indeed. It's a virgin! I need to get some glass doors, and whatever that thing is you put the wood on to raise it up in the air slightly. I will say I hate the thought of having to move the turntable out of there. It's the most stable place in the room, no worries about people walking, or even jumping up and down and making a record skip. Oh well..... I'll enjoy it while I can..... can't last and all that.
 
Cool system and house..

As much as I like stereo gear, I gotta say you're really wasting your fireplace.. Lots of people would kill to have a fireplace like that in thir home..

I just wish mine was in my livingroom.. Our fireplace is in our den, and gets very little use since we don't use that room for much more than storeing furniture and knick knacks we don't have room for in the livingroom..

They're in here just to test the function of the speakers. Tried 'em on the floor, didn't sound right. The furniture is rearranged right now in a manner that precludes placing them properly...... that being IMO about 10-12 feet apart and maybe a foot off the floor. With them being on the Klipschorns in the extreme corners of the room, they struggle to image correctly. I've no doubt they could do it if placed properly.
 
Great room and great system. I dig the monoblocs and the K-horns....and the room, well all the other stuff too. Very nice.
 
Looks great, we would not dare put anything but firewood in our FP our only source of heat when Flicker & Flash schedule one of their outages in winter.

Hey, not to go too off topic on you, but I would investigate the possibility of a wood burning stove insert for that fireplace. There are some very good ones out there now. It would heat that room far more efficiently than the fireplace, and might actually be a viable option from a cost standpoint. If you got something with glass doors, you'd still have a fire to look at, too.

Just a thought.
 
Everyone....thanks for the compliments. Redboy, yes we did consider an insert. However the family room has a basement area underneath, with ground level access. So we're putting a wood stove in the basement for heating duties. (Regency 2400 FWIW) It'll be easier to feed wood into the basement on a regular basis. The family room fireplace will be for "wood burning" decoration only. To try and keep the efficiency up ( or more accurately, the inefficiency down ) I had them plumb a fresh air inlet to the fireplace. So, once the glass door is closed it'll be a closed system, hence won't be pulling any combustion air from the Family room.
