New Record Cleaning Machine

Hi all, Since I got my DIY TT built, I realizd that ALL my LPs have NEVER been cleaned so I am going to build a RCM. I have all the parts except the platter but am working on that.

The motor is a Slo-Syn geared motor that produces 2000 oz. in. of torque (10.7 foot pounds) and spins at 3.3 RPM.

The vacuum is a super strong B&D dust buster.

The box is an old dynamite box I had left over from my logging days.

I'm going to make the sucker wand out of a piece of round pvc tubing.

Are you sure the Dust Buster can handle moisture? I would think a small wet/dry Shop Vac might be a better and safer choice.
 
Having seen photos of some other pieces by the OP, I'm gonna say that, by the time he's finished, it won't be 'fugly'.

You can make your own wet tank from a mud bucket, a little PVC and some foam, even a petcock for a drain if you're going whole hog.
Vacuum in the top with a deflector and a foam filter, inlet near the top on the side, drain on the bottom.

You want to have a bleeder somewhere in the vacuum line, so you can adjust the vacuum power, you don't want too much.

I think I will wait until next winter to make it pretty. I'm think a Ron Finch paint job would do.

That's what I had in mind Dark. I am finding out that the box is going to be a tight squieez for the platter but I think I can make it work.
 
Here is what I got done today.

Cut out the bottom

Cut mounting trim for the main mount board. It is teak and the board is just 3/4" plywood. It should look good with clear coat.

And, I found this stuck to the bottom of the box.

I just looked at the amps in total and the motor draws .4 amp but the vacuum draws a whopping 6.2 amps. That seems like a gob of amps for a dust buster.
 
Just got back from Andyman's and kegger's. Got a Platter from Andy and resistors for the motor from Keg......thanks guys.

It is great living so close to so many with the same hobby.
 
Just got back from Home Depot and spend a full hour and $4.79 there for pieces for the sucker wand. My daughter comes in town tomorrow morning and leaves Sunday night so obviously no work will get done on the RCM untill next week....oh well.
