No polar bears here...
After some time going to the Charity shops around my town, without any luck finding some nice Vintage audio, I struck pay-dirt. A Sony STR-7065A Receiver in nice condition, and the price? 50 kroner, which translate to just under 10 Dollars!

Everything works, except the two fuse type bulbs for the scale.

Oh, and the nice option Walnut cover was there too!

I´m okay with the lows in finding stuff, if the stuff I find are this good. Next time I want to find a Sansui G-33000...

I Cleaned it before taking the pics., wood case got oil etc. but there is not a scratch on the faceplate, and just a couple of small ones on the case. Had to use a couple of spoons to get the knobs of the flip-switches so I could get the faceplate off.
 
That is an incredibly beautiful peace of hardware you found there, especially with the wood case

Balance and Volume in one knob, was scared that the plastic would be yellow from age, but turned out nicely.

Well like a high class Receiver should, really nice... but the noise floor is a bit high, meaning that there is a bit of sibilance. I had the same problem with a Sansui Eight Receiver, I found that it is my speakers that are the problem (Sansui SP-L700) They are to sensitive, 93DB.
 
Nice looker. Love the grain pattern of the case! These Sonys and earlier were soooo nice to display and listen to. Try some speakers from KLH, AR and even Bozak, Yes, Bozak. I always liked the early Sonys with KLH 5s, AR5 series and any of the heritage Bozaks and ran a 6065 for years with a set of 302a's.
 
Very very nice. These Sony receivers are what got me interested in high fidelity back in the 1970s. My buddy Mark had one in his bedroom with a Garrard turntable and we used to listen to George Carlin records... Then I finally got my first real system a few years later, which had a Marantz 2245, Dual 1229, Harman Kardon 1000 tape deck and Rogersound Labs speakers. Wish I still had that system! Sold it when I went off to college.

But I digress...I remember that Sony as being very warm, clean and lovely to look at. His had one of these Walnut covers too and it was a nice touch.
 
DAMN! i got my STR-7035 for 10 bucks at a garage sale and it look just about as good. im way jealous :yes:
i agree that they sound good with KLH speakers. a friend is borrowing mine right now and he is using it with a pair of KLH 24s
 
Thanks for the kind words. No matter how big I think a Receiver looks on it´s own, standing next to my Turntable it looks small! :D

I´ll relay the praise to my cheap camera, I don´t think it´s ever heard such nice words. :D

A little salt has been thrown in the wound though, there is some snap crackle and pop periodically. I think it´s the volume pot. that need more cleaning, that or the speaker selector. And the on off switch is hanging a bit, so not all bug free but nothing that can´t be fixed.
 
After a night of CD´s and Vinyl I can give an idea on the sound. Usually when I use my Philips FA-960 MKII amp. I use the loudness, but no need here. The sound is rich and full, and the soundstage is wide and deep, I mean DEEP! Very pleased with it, it sounds like I like it to sound (if that makes sense)
