Need Advive On Onkyo 6 Disc R1 Skipping

New Guy here found this site just a short time ago and joined up. Here is The Skinny folks picked up a very nice Yamaha CR 820 and 2 nice Advent A3's to relive the 70's.

I have a nice Onkyo Receiver/Amp but loved the Yamaha I gave away like a fool almost twenty years ago. I hooked up an Onkyo R1 6 Disc Changer and it skips like crazy. Tried to go the Lens Cleaner Route to no avail. Looking for some insight as to what to look at next. Any and ALL Help Appreciated.

Try to make sure it is on a level platform. Use a bubble level to check front to back, left to right..

Make sure the spindles and rails are also clean. Check to make sure no debris is on the CD clamp.

With the cover off, see how the CD loads and press skip to next track to see how it spins. Is the CD spinning evenly?

btw, the actual model number should be on the lower right corner of the face. RI actually stands for Remote Interactive and identifies Onkyo components that can interact with each other when daisy chained by a cable.

Terra1 Thank You will start there and get back. Again thanks, have a Machinist Level I will use. Handy with tools in fact have a machine shop downstairs so that is a plus but Electronics an I know each other we are not great friends.;)
 
You can try the above thing's, but the unit may be a goner. When these unit's age, laser assemblies tend to go out and rubber isolation part's harden, making them very susceptible to external vibration's. I've had this happen to a few player's over the year's, and really not worth the repair effort.
 
It may be saved by a good lense cleaning, but sometimes the laser just dies. It happens to the best of us. I know I'll be a bit upset when my onk/integra lets go.
On the plus side I seem to find find onk multi player pretty often on CL and the GWs. So getting another shouldn't be hard.
 
Thank You Folks For ALL The Help. Started taking apart the Onkyo DX-C330 late last night and due to Old Eyes and a shortage of good light put it off until today.

Looked online for a Service Manual and they all wanted 9+$ to download and well I'm a Torrent Kinda Guy. After building a few AMD Based Computers I wasn't intimidated and removing the top cover I was greeted with BIG Box nothing much here. And not much dust as the pics show.

Long story short found my way to the Laser and a good cleaning with quality camera lens cleaner showed what looked to be Smoke Residue. Ex Wife was a smoker and I did have a few Steeler Game Cigar Parties. Made sure nothing was binding and lubed the Guide Rod the Laser rides on. Zipped it back up and No Skipping what-so-ever.

Again A BIG Thank You to all that helped me with advice.:thmbsp:
