JBL Apollo C51 Speakers. What are these?

I just picked these up at the value village. I loved the old school look and I figured with how heavy they were they would probably sound decent if they worked. Sure enough I hooked them up and they sound fabulous! I was just trying to find some more information if anyone know more about them.

Looks like a hack re-surround on the L15A woofer, but since you probably paid nothing for them, who cares? Add a UHF driver and you've really got something going!

Good lord. Looks like the S7 driver load, S1 was standard for that size cabinet. The horns are worth many multiples of that price by themselves.

I have a friend with the matching equipment cabinet, he'd kill for a set of the Apollo speaker boxes.

Very nice speakers, the lenses on the horns go for double what you paid for the speakers. Great deal.:thmbsp:
 
Two-thirds of a real nice speaker. If you don't want to spring for the slot tweeters that will give them adequate treble response, I'd flip 'em. You would really do well.
 
Questions about value will probably get this moved to Dollars and Sense. However, you can expect many times the value of what you paid.
 
Want to add the missing highs without changing anything or springing $500+ for a pair of slot tweeters? :cool:

Simply put a non-polarized 1 mfd cap between the positive input post and the positive post going to the compression driver (R and terminal pin #4). If it is too bright, add a 10 watt resistor of low value (e.g., 4 ohms) in series with the cap and terminal to bring this level down.

This will let the highest frequencies by-pass the crossover and go straight to the driver. Very cheap and certainly worth a try. :yes:
