Quiex II album I picked up, what is Quiex?

I picked up a promo copy of HSAS and it says it is a Quiex II album. I have no clue what that means if anything. It is Sammy Hagar, Neal Schon and a couple other guys together.

From what I understand it's suppose to be a better quality vinyl and pressing. I have Miles Davis - Kind of Blue, on the Quiex SV-P 200gm. Sounds good.

The HSAS album you picked up was a DJ copy. They used to use Quiex pressings for promo copies of albums. It's a higher quality than they used for standard pressings in the states.

Do a search on eBay for it and you will see lots of them.

It's great stuff. There is another type; JVC Supervinyl. Both make excellent pressings. Low distortion and extremely low noise. If you hold it up to the light you can see through it!

They also cut the lacquers for those promos very carefully, and used the best record-pressing techniques. So it is hard to tell what is the Quiex and what is the care used in the processing. The good ones sound fantastic, and often sell for a premium price.

I have a bunch and they're all superb. Plus a DMM (direct metal master) of a John Martyn LP on Quiex that is flat unbelievable.

Quiex II was a harder, purer vinyl used on WEA (Warner, Elektra, Atlantic) label Promotional copies. Same stampers as used on early pressings to the public and the same mastering. I own a Double RL promo first pressing of Brothers In Arms which is the best US pressing in my book.

I have that one, signed by Mark Knopfler. Unfortunately someone forcibly removed the "for promotional use only" sticker, leaving a big rip on the lower front. I need to get the sticker replicated from one of my other WB promos.

I've got a copy of "The Nightfly" by Donald Fagen on Quiex vinyl and it's one of the best sounding LPs I own. I wish I had more albums made in that format.
