D&R Turntable help

Picked this up at today. I need some help setting it up. How much oil do I need for platter. Do I need to oil the motor, it gets pretty hot. Any info is really helpful! It is a D&R with gray 108 tonearm. Don't ask what I payed, it was stealing.

Cool find, that arm is a monster...

Not sure about the motor, mine has a diffgerent one. Hopefully another member who is more knowledgeable than I will come along and advise.
 
hey there, did you ever get this up and running? They're pretty easy to figure out. The switch is for half-speed to play the 16rpm records.

You have the 12B which I think is the better of the 2 models because of the motor.

Did you check the dipstick? ;) That thing is a monster! Very cool. Hope you get it sorted.

Also, forgot to mention, it perfectly OK for those motors to get hot, just as long as it's not unreasonably hot. And there shouldn't be noise. If it's running quietly and smoothly, then all is OK. That hysteresis motor doesn't have any oil access points to tend to.
 
Thanks for the reply. Got it up and running nicely. What kind of arm did your come with? I wonder how many were produced. The simple, effective design is timeless. I love mine.

I found one once with and SME 3009, one with a Grado Wood Tonearm and one with a Shure tonearm. I recently saw another with a Ferranti tonearm. Not sure how many were made, but judging by serial numbers a few thousand for sure.
 
Its a really cool arm. Many people think it is the best arm you can get for older mono carts. Tracking weight 4-6 grams. The arm is unipivot and viscousdamped. It takes 2 second to drop!

Myopia thats quite the collection! Was the grado and shure mono and sme stereo? I'm sure you've seen the site dedicated to R&D.
 
How come it's always someone other than me that finds these tables? Waaah!

They were all wired for stereo, not the original tonearms that were paired with the TTs obviously. Yeah, that web page is mine actually, I live in Santa Barbara where these were produced, so I decided to put up a page dedicated to it since I couldn't find much out there.
