Sony SS-7330....yes Sony !

Thru a very generous trade from a friend who is downsizing his house, today i got a pair of Sony speakers from i think 1973.

SS-7330.

I am told a tweeter is out, so some investigation will be needed to find out weather its a blown driver or a wiring or crossover problem or a dirty L-Pad.

Here are a couple of quick pics, they are beautiful speakers, solidly built and weigh in at a hefty 48 pounds each.

I wonder if these were Japan only market speakers ?

Anyway, more to come in the thread as i get them apart and we can see the insides.

Those are stunning. It doesn't really surprise me- they were quite the company back then. Still are, actually, but their great stuff is obscured by the sheer number of things they make.

Nice,!!! I like them better with the grills on!!! Don't forget some nice stands for them.

As part of the deal i am fixing my friends Sony CDP-370 circa 1988.

So far so good,it may well live to play CD's another day, after the CD players sorted out i can get my teeth into the beautiful Sonys !

1973 sounds right on those - the condition looks great. I've never seen that speaker before, and I've had all kinds of Sony items. Up until about 1980, they really had some wonderful audio products.

Many years ago I had a top of the line Sony reel to reel tape player from the late 60s, huge & about 65 lbs. ...the quality was fantanstic.

They are very good speakers. Stood up very well to my JVC Zero 5's in a comparison test, which is high praise, indeed!

That sucks about the tweeter. Take it out and check to make sure it isn't just a bad cap in the x-over.

Damn nice looking for a sony speaker.

I will do, but the tweeter shows no reading on my multimeter..

I will have a better look at the speakers in the week when i have more time.

I have turned down the treble level of the speaker with the good tweeter and to be honest they sound very good even with one tweeter out, the mids give as much treble as many other speakers i have owned.

Quite pleased with them......they sound far better than i could have hoped for, even with one tweeter dud.

Nice speakers. Yeah those look like they were exclusively available in Japan. Was your buddy in the military back in the day?

No, but i would bet they they got here by that route, maybe a PX somewhere in Europe or Japan.

Oh if those boxes could talk......what a tale they could tell.

Man, those are sweet. With the grills on, they have kind-of-a Art Deco vibe goin' on.
I'd LOVE to see the crossover network Sony put in those
