Nora Jones

If anyone here likes a soft jazz like album...Nora Jones "Come Away With Me" is great. Kind of jumps out at you, but has a soft presence (damn sounds like I'm describing play)!!

Yes I have it, bought it after seeing her performance on Saturday Night Live not too long ago. Good test disc for the hi fi system.

I know it's just not me, but I hear alot of top end distortion on her cd. Tried someone elses and heard the same thing. I like this cd, but the imperfections really get me down.

Apparently she didn't recieve very good reviews from some critics stating she was too "air-like" sounding (which is a characteristic of a novice). I believe Bob Dylan recieved many poor reviews from his first album and was almost cast out by Columbia, which decided to give a second chance for the album Freewhellin which in my opinion is a folk classic. Yes the highs seem somewhat disturbing, but at lower levels its a pleasant album.

This was one of the few new albums I want to buy. Is it listenable or are the distortions too distracting at high volume? I hate cd's that digitize my ears to death, The Big G doesn't hide anything.

VH, the cd is nice on speakers; with my Grado headphones, there is just that anticipation of distortion that gets me down. It's very high end, mostly on the left channel and some don't even notice.
I bought the LP, and from what I hear (damn I hate to say that) it's less noticable and more enjoyable.
By the way, the Norah Jones album was my first new LP purchase because of how the cd sounded
Again, on speakers, I hardly notice it. The thing is I know it's there (cd). Hopefully my TT will be here tomorrow and I'll be able to give you a thumbs up

Not a fan

My buddie loves Norah, and while I grasp her charms I just don't care for her much at this early stage. She seems too contrived, then again if your into Krallish type singers, maybe not. If I'm going to listen to something like that I'll take Rickie Lee Jones.

Yes to the gams, but show's poor choice in material to cover.

Her mumbly style just doesn't do The Look Of Love justice.

And why in the world did she cover a mundane Billy Joel song ???

VH:

If you want to get the Norah Jones album, get the 200g vinyl, no distortions were heard on the copy I borrowed recently.

michael,
I got the 200gm version also. I think I got mine from amusicdirect. The picture of her on the cover is worth the price of the LP
Did you hear distortions on her cd? Just wondering.
Now if my TT would only land here!

Hi md,

Yes, that full sized cover picture is great !
Makes the CD cover look like a postage stamp.

Now that our currency is no longer the peso of the Pacific, I'll be ordering my own copy soon.

I've only heard the locally NZ pressed CD and while I didn't hear any distortion, it didn't sound all that great, which is par for our locally pressed CD's.

Most of our CD's are deficient at the frequency extremes so maybe it's to our advantage this time ???
