Anyone replaced on/off switch with a metalbones NOS switch?

About a week ago my on/off switch went kaputt on my 800c. I really wasn't surprised. I would catch it making a crackling noise every once and a while when I would switch it on. On it's last day I had the knob off and went to turn it on and got a fairly nasty shock. It died in the off position..no more "clicky".
So I ordered the NOS replacement from metalbones last monday...not here yet.
I suppose it's just as well now instead of later, while it's still awaiting repair of the tuner section :thumbsdn: and fabrication of the cabinet. :thmbsp:

So...anyone out there had experience replacing the switch with one supplied from metalbones...or anywhere else?

Not an answer to your question, but a recommendation (if I may). :)

Presuming the replacing of the switch goes well, I would leave the 800C in the "On" position and plug it into a power bar. Use the power bar's "on/off" to switch the unit "on/off" accordingly.

I'm sure some of the more tech savvy members will chime in and lend a hand.

I used the on/off replacements from Metalbone twice.

They work fine and I've had no problems.

But you should have some technical experience for the instillation. Of course, there is soldering involved, etc.

I have done a all new switch scheme on my X100, I had to replace the Volume
pot with a NOS one I got off ebay and it has the loudness tap but no switch on back,
So I removed one of the component plugs from the rear of the amp and put a sliding
on and off switch and wired it in, it works really well and I left all the old wiring there
in case I want to change it back later on.

Well, that wasn't too difficult.
The most challenging part was adjusting the position of the switch so the on/off click was smooth as possible. Still seems to stick a little when switching off. Perhaps a bit of break in is required.
Anyway...up and running.

One week and I forgot how good this receiver sounds.

Forgot to mention it was a busted spring. It seems that the general consensious it that the switches fail electrically, not mechanically. Hence the reason for the current limiter. Are the failures related or just two different ways the switches cease to function?

I guess that would do it too, glad you fixed it up these things have been going for
45 plus years so I guess something got to give sometimes.

For what it's worth, I also purchased the switch from Metabone for my 500-S (earlier vesion 500) and it worked quite well. I had to literally glue the switch case onto the back of the dual pot, as the guide tabs didn't match the original switch in my model, but the switch itself is exactly the same. I removed mine completely (15 seperate connections, including the power connections on the switch) so it took some time, but now the switch works perfectly. Also installed the in-rush current limiter in series for good measure. I figure 50 years of service from a switch that gets used twice every time I use the stereo is a pretty good service life.
