So, I finally finished piecing together my first setup (plus bought my first vinyl not too long ago). I think I need to slow down a bit; I've gotten a little giddy with the record buying.:music:

Well here's what's putting out the tunes at the time being:

--Technics SL-1610
Can anyone I.D. my Pickering cartridge? The stylus is a DTL-3S

--Technics SA-80 receiver

--Minimus 7w on top; Aztec Coquettes below.

All was done on a budget...thrifting, craigslist, what have ya.

A bit off topic (I don't want to start a new thread in the speaker section). I know my SA-80 is a little guy. On the back of the receiver it says "A or B -- 4ohms-16ohms" and "A + B -- 8ohms-16ohms." I'm running the Aztecs on "main" and the Minimus's on "remote." Both together. According to the receiver it can handle two sets (A + B) of 8ohm speakers? I don't feel any heat coming from the receiver with this setup, even after an hour or two of straight use.

I'd also appreciate any advice involving anything else (to tweak my setup for the better). I'm rather new to all this.:beerchug:

I plan to sand/refinish the Aztecs and get them on some sort of stand. They're actually supposed to be rotated on the side.

Get those Aztecs off the wooden floor! I can hear the resonance from my home! :nono:

You have a nice clean system. As far as impedance goes, all your speakers should be 8 ohms since you have both A & B going at the same time. But if you don't really crank them and you're not getting much heat from the receiver, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's like doing a California roll through a stop sign. It's illegal, but can be done safely. :D
 
Very good for your first turntable setup and record buying can be addictive. The cabinet also caught my eye, looks better than most new stuff today and perfect for audio equipment/records.

I mean, if I interpreted the back of the receiver right, it should be able to handle the speakers. I'm not really feeling any heat. Those Minimus's really add to the highs of the Aztecs, though. And about those Aztecs, they're a work in progress! I might put them on hairpin legs.

You're off to a good start there! Nice stuff. The Pickering is an XV-15/625E, I think, with a "Stereohedron" stylus. It might be the best part of your system. ;)

(And the same legs you put on the bookshelf might look great on the speakers.)

It depends on the impedance of the speakers. If they're all 8 ohms, then you're fine. But if one pair is 4 ohms, then it's not recommended per the label on your Technics receiver.
 
Very cool. You might want to invest in a carbon fiber brush to help keep the records as clean as possible. Got a ionizer hairdryer laying around? They help control static clicks and pops. Readily avail at Goodwill.
 
Love the bookshelf/cabinet as well. I hear you on the LP addiction. I've very shortly picked up 20+ records and I have 30 or so in the mail. My goodness.

They're all 8 ohms, so all is well.

As Boreas Said it could be a Pickering 625E but since the stylus is a DTL-3S I'll say it's probably a DTL-3S. If it's a P mount body it's defiantly the 3S. Here is a link to your stylus.

I've stumbled across that link before. I thought the DTL-3S was only nomenclature for the stylus. The cart looks a lot like a TL-3 that I was watching on ebay, and it seemed to come stocked with the DTL-3S stylus. All those old Pickerings look pretty similar; too bad the previous owner ripped the label off.

I might pick up a Discwasher (D3 not D4). Supposedly the original ones are good at keeping the dust off.

Yeah, a few weeks back I had them coming from so many sources that I accidentally double-ordered a few.

Nice start into vinyl. Nice system to begin with too. Do remember, once you hear good records, your wallet will be thinner. But you'll be a happy man.

I use both, actually, a discwasher brush to remove the dust and a carbon fiber brush to remove static electricity.

I've already experienced both of those last two. Plus the obsession of trying to source an OOP record.

I'll keep a look out for a good CF brush, also.
