Linn Nexus LS250

Got a pair of these coming with stands and was hoping to get some more thoughts on these. Mine are very early models unfortunately, but seem to be in mint condition. Hoping to get a little more low bass response than the Renaissance Morel Duets and little less boom than the Klipsch KG4s. The Morels dig deep for a 6'' monitor (Transmission Line @ 42Hz minus 3dB), but are very accurate and don't accentuate anything that's not there. I find myself not playing a lot of great albums that are lacking in the low end. The albums are more listenable with the KG4's but find myself wanting something a little tighter. Hopefully I will like the sound of the 20mm Hiquphon tweeters. Also, do regular bananas fit the Linn connections? Mine look to be missing the nuts/jumpers and I'm rigging up some bi-wires. I just moved this from an older thread I responded to yesterday.

Matt, I lived with a pair of these back when they first came out. Regular banana's should be fine with them, at the time I did use Linn's K20 cable with Deltron connectors, a banana-type connector, good stuff in my opinion.

I think they are very enjoyable speakers, well built and all, the stands could be a little bit fiddly, if they are the ones with the all-thread rods going up into the middle of the stand and into the cabinet, but once fitted, pretty nice looking package. In the end, I prefered the Linn Kans, they just seemd to have that "boogie factor" the Nexus didn't quite have to me.

I didn't think the Hiquphon tweets were objectionable at all, in fact the whole speaker to me was more polite than anything else. Enjoy them! Tim

Had a chance to listen to these for a couple of weeks now and really like them. They are doing exactly what I hoped for on the low end so I guess I got lucky. I did get some money back from the seller because the tweeters were pushed in. It took a while, but they popped out OK with some careful attention using some very sticky tape. Unsure if they are damaged much and replacements from Hiquphon are $220 a pair. Huge soundstage difference after they popped out though. Big improvement after I installed the crazy original stands too, as I originally had them on some low stools. Definitively recommend these speakers for someone looking to spend a couple hundred or below on something different.

Matt, glad you are enjoying them, I had mine for a few years before going back to the Linn Kans. The Kans just worked better in my smaller room at the time too. Even though the satnds can be a bit fiddly, once properly setup and secured, they do make for a nice looking package!

I think they are a good sounding, well built speaker, especially considering what they typically sell for these days.

I would guess the tweets are probably okay, if they sound good to you I wouldn't get all worried over it. Sometiems you see them on E-bay cheap, but I wouldn't get too worried over it. Enjoy the music! Tim
