JBL LE25-4 Tweeters: Those Little Orange Foam Things

Zonker92

All shiny and chrome
Just replaced mine, using a 3/8" copper pipe. I wound up stealing the double-sided tape from some foam weather stripping, and using scissors to cut the tape out.

I'm sure there are better sources for that orange foam, but I had the headlight kit already. There are probably better hole-punchers, too, but what the hey; I had a piece of copper pipe already; spin it in a drill or use a bench grinder and a file to sharpen up the end, then twist it into the foam.

I had to cut out a dozen pieces or so to get four decent ones. I positioned them, then used the rounded end of the lever on a pair of nail clippers to push them under the neoprene rings.

Excellent post. Going to make a lot of JBL owners out there happy when they cap off the final piece of their restos.

I missed this thread earlier, very clever, that is real a neat touch there. Nice looking JBL's! :thmbsp:

ps I have a pair of JBL L56 in my office and love them!

Thanks, Bob

I have 2 pairs of L-26s, and never saw any orange foam thingies on either of them. possibly they fell off years ago (before I got them)?

Now I have orange foam thingie envy.

Real men have orange foam thingies.

I would look at those gaps; I bet you'll see tape remnants.

(Although come to think of it, the older L26s had LE25-2 tweeters (see below), not -4s. The "A" version had the LE25-4. Mine are As. Not sure if the -2s ever had the orange dealios.)

My L36 had these "orange thingy's". The Le25/26 are two of my favorite dome tweeters which sound fantastically good with only a single cap ran to them.

Color of LE25-4

Need to touch up the tweeters. Is it a flat black, satin black or matte black? Any ideas? Or do I need to paint both entire drivers so they match? Thanks in advance!
