There is something to be said about new stuff & Perry Como

My Pioneer Receiver, SX-650, is what it is sound wise. Just looking at it takes me back to yesteryear and that's a good thing. But a newish DTA-100a t-amp and a TC-760LC phono pre combo blows the sx650 away.

Last night I was testing out my new TT acquisition Read Here with a Technics headshell & DL-160. Hooked up to the sx650 w/pair of Polk TSi100s.

This morning I took out the sx650 and put in the combo and played 2 LPs from last night. Talk about a night & day difference :D The DTA-100a and TC-760LC were wayyyy better across the spectrum.

Oh btw--- Perry Como and a cup of coffee go well together at 4:30am

Perry Como: I love that era....Jo Staford, Nat Cole, Billy Ekstine, Sarah Vaughan. It is great that you are enjoying the music. That is the essence.

SX-650 was on the mediocre side of meh when it was new. Looked and felt nice, though.
Had a good friend in those days who ditched one within 24 hours after seeing and hearing a Yamaha CA-810 integrated amplifier.

Yeah I know... My go to vintage Receiver is a STA-2080 but it over heated and blew a fuse at a BBQ last spring. We were driving it too hard on some 600w yamaha PA speakers :D and I've not gotten around to checking it out.

The STA-2080 is a fine old receiver!

A random muse :boring:

Very good sound can be had cheap... How about this FrankenReceiver :D

Individual retail prices

DTA-100a $100.00
Sony XDR-F1HD $100.00
TC-760LC $80.00

Put them in a cheap box with 4 RCA inputs, voilà !!
