JBL G400 - Fix or Junk it?

Found a pair of JBL G400's at Goodwill for 15 bucks and grabbed them. Problem is that one of the tweeters is missing and I don't know if it's worth doing something about it or just junking/parting out the speaker.

Tweeter is a JBL EX 73959, I can't find any replacements online. Can anyone help or make a suggestion?

There are many tweeters that could be used for replacement...I think these are fairly efficient speakers so I would suggest the Vifa BC25sC06-04 short horn neo tweets that are only $12 @ Parts Express...great sound cheap! You may have to add a resistor and they are 4 ohms....Any Vifa or Peerless would do the job ....look over the options. The Vifa ring tweeters are more expensive but are top of the line! If you gave more info - DB rating, impedance, mounting hole size, capacitor value (crossover point) $ budget it would be much easier to help.

I attached the spec sheet/crossover diagram.

The mounting hole size looks to be 1 & 15/16"

High Frequency capacitor says C4 3.0uF

Budget is probably 30 bucks or less if possible. I know the speaker is 8ohm, but I don't know how to deal with placing a 4ohm tweeter into the mix. Is it hard to deal with that?

I would just get a cheap set of replacements as others have recommended. The originals were not anything to write home about anyway.
 
The Vifa tweet I mentioned would be fine and fit the hole but it has four screw holes as almost every speaker would have. I would suggest a 2 ohm resistor in series with the cap with the resister connected to the tweeter. This would bring the level down and end up with a 6 ohm impedance too, close enough. Level will be up to you and could be 3 or 4 ohm to taste.

I made a change to the crossover diagram in the attachments. Is this what you mean? Get a 2 ohm resistor in place it directly in line to the tweeter?

Yes exactly like that....but 3 might be what you need. Buy two 2 ohm and two 1 ohm and you could put the 2 and 1 in series to get three or maybe just the 1 ohm ....whatever sounds best.
 
At a bare minimum they are better looking than many of the thrift/dumpster "scroes" that some folks get excited about.
 
Gotcha, to put it in perspective, B33Tu5 is my brother (literally) and currently has a nice SDA-2B and a pair of Advent Legacy's that I'm going to help him refoam so he's got a set of practice speakers. If these are decent or in the same league as the legacies it would probably be worth it.

I think it's a moot point though as I think he's already ordered the tweets and everything necessary.

Gonna be fun to play with some toys in any case ;)
 
Is there some reason that, in the original schematic , that the tweeter is wired backwards from the rest? or is it a misprint.
