I was doing my daily trash bin hunting and there it was a JVC/NIVICO 5003 Solid State Stereo Receiver I hooked up a pair of crappy speakers (Just in case something was amiss inside as I did not want to ruin a decent pair of speakers) and I have sound from both channels W00T!!!!:banana: it sounds good too Someone else's loss I guess as there was a box from an RCA Home theater in a Box type setup (Read: BPC)

Anyway anyone know more information about this? WPC Year etc?

I guess I found it just in time before it got ruined the wood case it is in is what I call good condition (Minor gouges only one on the back where it was resting on the pavement:nono: )

Anyone know how to get the wood case off? I want to take a look inside the unit
And I don't want to break or damage the wood case
PS: What is Monkey Wards?? Montgomery Wards?? or is it something else?
 
Nice find. It would have been a real shame for that unit to have been wasted.

There are a few screws that fasten the chassis to the case, possibly the ones that hold the feet on. After removing the screws, the entire chassis should slide out.

Check the bottom,
You probably have to pull the screws out of the bottom
and slide the innards out of the case. This might include
the feet also.
 
Cool receiver! I like the built-in eq on the right side. But don't run all of bands up full, it defeats the purpose. Enjoy your new piece.
 
I had a NIVICO like that...paid $5.00 at a garage sale. I wish I could remember the model number. It had real wood, a veneer I think. On the back it said something like 240 watts. Good luck finding any information on the net, there's not much out there. Some how it's related to JVC. I ended up giving it away...wife seemed to think there were too many stereos in the house.
 
Anyone know how to fix the FM Stereo lamp? (I got the case off there was six big screws on the bottom and the chassis slid right out)
The lamp is 6V 50MA with a screw base
The lamp is good but is only dimly lit (Edit I broke it, The lamp that is :thumbsdn: oops)
It also looks as there was an idiot amateur repair to the unit as there was cut wires not connected

Whoever changed the stereo lamp put rubber cement on the lamp and even put in the wrong lamps
(Well the dial lamps are correct but not the stereo lamp)

It reads 12V 0.5SA whereas it should be 6V 0.50A
Anyone know where to get a correct Red FM Stereo Lamp?
 
I saw a Nivico at a TS a good while back and the quality was nice enough to inquire about it on AK. It was solid and heavy, but I already had enough so I let it be at $5. Nice find.

Two more question
What is the Pinout for the Tape DIN Jack? and what is the input tape head used for?
RTR or some kind of recorder, or something else?

In the old days tape decks would send the head output to an equalizer (like a phono pre amp) for playback.
 
I have the original owners manual for the one I bought new while in the Army in Korea. Seems like I paid around $250.00 for it in the PX. (Mine was a 5003M...the 5003W had the wooden case.) Nivico is the name when sold in Asia...JVC is the name on the ones sold here in America.

I will send you the Manual/Schematics if you PM me with your address. The tape head input is for tape recorders not having a preamp.

It was a very good receiver..had plenty of power. I wrote the company soon after buying mine and suggested that they bring out a receiver like this with a separate SEA tone control system for each channel. They wrote back and said to be patient....one was in the works. Shortly after that I saw one in a magazine, with another set of 5 sliders on the left side of the receiver. That receiver looked 30" wide! Nice. I never actually saw one in a store though...just the ones in the ad.

Kind of a trash find. It arrived late. When I picked up the box something shifted and thumped like a dead animal. It was loose in a box too big with a Wal Mart flyer in it for cushioning. The cabinet was destroyed, each corner was loose and like a hinge. Complained to get refund but curiosity made me fire up the guts. And it worked, all bulbs lit, no need for deoxit. That never happens. So I kept it.


Got a similar unit for "parts" (the cabinet). Pretty unusual, AVC for FM, DX-LOC for reception, adjustable Mute on the back.
