In light of Brett's comparison of inner grooves vs. outer grooves (I couldn't pick which was which), I offer the following. It's a minute or so from the 1st track on side one, the last track on side one, the 1st track on side two and the last track on side two...arranged in an order to challenge.

Although I have the advantage of knowing which is which, I do think there's a difference.

Pretty sure about the first 2 but not the second. But then again I don't know exactly what to listen for.
 
This being in mp3 form really makes it more difficult. Harmonic distortion absolutely disappears on low bitrate mp3's. Even when I recorded some records for a friend (uncompressed) on my Philips CD recorder, I noticed a huge difference monitoring the record's playback through the CD recorder's headphone jack, and playing back the CD I recorded moments before. So much information was missing! Harmonics, detail, tone- all altered! So much for "CD quality!" But I digress...

My guess is:

1. outer
2. inner
3. outer
4. inner

Though, odd that I hear more sibilance mistracking in the selections which I labeled "outer." :scratch2:
 
My guess would be: inner/outer/outer/inner.
But if the clips are close in character it´s mostly guesswork, we should be able to hear them switching place on the record.

To me they all sounded great - I did catch a faint bit of slight distortion on the very last one at the very beginning - just at the beginning.

As a matter of fact, I'm surprised there aren't more participants...

Bob... I went back and listened to the wav file, and the quality is considerably better. However it does get choppy and chattery towards the end, since it's such a HUGE file. Perhaps future needle drops with a higher bitrate mp3 (320kbps) would be a reasonable compromise between quality and file size?

I too think this stuff is fun. I do need to make a change on the file size and processing. I have a more-current computer I can move to. The 320k idea sounds like a possibility. In hindsight, I think Windows might have been downloading updates while I was recording, so I might try again with the network cable disconnected. I could see spots in Audacity where the recording was stopping and decided to just live with it for the test.
