found this stuff at a thrift store, finally getting around to posting up some pics.

everything works. even the turntable in the bottom :) any one have any idea what this stuff might be worth? its in my upstairs living room now next to my lamp and recliner :). sounds awesome. now I just need to find a sister to my old knight mono amp...

Very nice.

The amp is, I believe, a Grommes 28-PG (or PG-28). Not sure what the tuner is. They made one in the same period that was AM-FM. Yours is just FM. Great score. We will need to know what drivers are in the speakers. And a close up of the Turntable eh :yes:


EDIT: ps, the 28PG is push-pull 6BQ5(EL84) tubes. Have you seen inside the wooden cabinet to see if the two Grommes units have covers on them or are they just open chassis? If they have covers I'm sure there is a fairly easy way to extract them from the wooden cabinet.

EDIT: The tuner is, I believe, a Grommes 101GT, and based on the Rockford cabinet I'm guessing a University coaxial or triaxial.

I agree about the cabinet. The face-plates and the cabinet don't seem to match. It's like colonial maple meets '57 chevy. :D
I'm not sure what you could do to the cabinet to help them look more "suited" for each other. :scratch2:
Maybe a really good piano black finish for the cabinet with some brushed aluminum hardware/trim...just thinking out loud...hmmmm.

Never heard of Grommes. But I like it!

To me the retro look inside the cabinet screams "don't take me out".. Thats a keeper as is.

If those components had been living -outside- that cabinet for their entire lives you'd be singing a different tune. That cabinet helped preserve them.

I think it's pretty cool as is. Time capsule of sorts. Nice find! Grommes is good !

Looked at your pictures again. It really appears that someone did a nice job building that cabinet. Is that a pull out/ drop down door that goes over the front of the components?

Only thing I'd do to that setup (maybe) is to unscrew the legs off the bottom and place the whole cabinet up on something about as high as your speaker stands. That would put everything at a better level (especially the turntable) for operating. You could safely store the original legs in the cabinet somewhere.
