Sony TA-5650 transistor alternative list (Updated)

Could be some help to some TA-5650 and Ta-4650 owners.

Since the most original transistors are no longer available, these could be good alternatives, the most are picked from the Transistor Substitution Data Book 1993.
I picked them also by availability to my country and shops, the most of them cost a few cents but shipping is mostly 5 euro, so you wanna buy them at one place.

I'm no expert, if you want to use these lists for repair or other, do your own homework, and check things, as I did too.

TA-5650
Q202,252,204,254: 2SA705 = BC556B
Q301~303,351~353: 2SA705 = BC556B (match those by HFE, for offset)
Q304,354: 2SA639S = BF423 (complementary to BF422)
Q305,355: 2SC926A = BF422
Q306,356: 2SC1364 = 2SC1815 (complementary to 2SA1015)
Q307,357: 2SA677 = 2SA1015
Q308,358: 2SC1364 = 2SC1815
Q309,359: 2SA677 = 2SA1015
Q310,360: 2SC926A = BF422
Q311,361: 2SA639S = BF423
Q312,362: 2SA835 = 2SA1837 (complementary to 2SC4793)
Q313,363: 2SC1663 = 2SC4793
Q401: 2SC1124 = 2SD667
Q402,403: 2SC926A = BF422
Q404: 2SC1124 = 2SD667

Q408: 2SC1364 = 2SC1815
Q501,502: 2SA678 = 2SA1015

All tested in circuit, worked fine!

Please take care when buying transistors, get branded ones, lots of fakes floating the web.
As for the C1815, A1015, Toshiba is going to end production, other manufacturers have taken over such as http://www.datasheet4u.com/share_search.php?sWord=2sc1815

Important: As Echowars wrote, There are any number of transistors that will sub for the originals and function, but the original ones are very high-gain wide-bandwidth parts and I'd not be replacing them unless I really really needed to.

After using the 5650 for months, I sold it to an V-fet enthusiast, he chose that one with new transistors over the one with original transistors, I think I did a good job.
I've repaired the 4650 and used the replacement list posted above, with again very good results.
If you did use this list to repair or update your amp, let us now what results where.
Keep the V-fets running, they deserve it.

Thank you for posting this list. I am using most of the same part substitutes to replace all the audio transistors in a Sony STR-7065 audio amplifier section. I'm hoping to get a lower DC offset by matching the BC556B pairs in place of the original 2SA705 (Q702, Q703).

I already have replaced all the capacitors in both the audio amp section and also most of the power supply/regulator. I also have replaced most resistors increasing to 2% in some cases and also larger wattage in a few cases.

For my outputs, I am going to use MJ21194G NPN (2SC1116) and MJ21193G PNP (2SA747). They seem to come fairly high rated here on AK for that application.

When I receive my transistors, I will report back and include a complete list of the original and sub parts I used if you wish. I hope this thread isn't so old that no one sees it and also that you have not forgot about it.

Thank you again. I was able to match many of my parts as you did, but after referencing your choices I think they are better. Also, I was able to get these parts for much less cost through Nikko even with shipping , except for the outputs which I got from ON Semiconductor.

Great resource, I've bookmarked it for future reference.

Does your book list any substitutes for 2SC2235, 2SA965, and 2SK105?

Lee.

I'm going start repairing a TA-4650 with this list, so not yet tested in circuit.
If these lists where helpful, let me know.
These lists may also be improved by you, tell what and why. :thmbsp:

Hi Tim5,

I have a TA-4650 in original but have issue on DC-offset. One channel shows 12mV while other's 1.5v (w/o power transistors). Have you experienced this and how to fix it. Thank you

If you wanna fix this, Q302,352,303,353: 2SA705 = BC556B or others (match those by HFE, for offset), butt I don't think it is really necessary (as the Ta-5650 manual states within 50mV) , it is improvable.
Read EchoWars tread on the offset matter, very helpful.
Butt I don't think you should measure this without the V-fets in place, get everything in working order first, I would say.
Other more important things to do first diodes, trim-pots and caps, if not done already, wire-wrap important power supply connections, new thermal grease and so on.......
