FINALLY got my subs done and hooked up to an big ass PA amp, and it's pretty friggin'...... INSANE!

I now know what these subs can do, and it's crazy and almost scary... I do have one problem though, and I'll take care of it when I veneer them. One of them, I'm getting air leaking through the bolt holes, so I'm getting a whistling sound from it.. At first I thought something was rattling, but after holding a cigarette near the holes with the volume up, it was a pretty big draft. Simple fix though..

Other wise though, CRAZY amounts of air moving. I was running some tones, and even at 15hz, it was pretty damn impressive feeling the air in the room load up, even though I couldn't hear it. Not getting any port noise, and I can only hear the air leak when I only have the subs playing without the mains. It's only at quite a bit of volume to hear it.

This Ashly amp is pretty incredible on these subs.. I did push it just to peaking and I couldn't believe how much more I felt the subs could take. They didn't even seem to be breaking a sweat pushing HUGE amounts of air in the room. I bet I could blow out a candle at 5 paces :D

Sitting on my sofa about 14 feet back, I can make my vision blurry :banana:

It seems my design for these was a lot better than I was going to give myself credit for. They seem to be pretty musical, not one note, and sure fill in a lot I was missing.

Imagine that, Simi builds speakers that are too damn big and loud. :D I'd like to hear them. Got enough amp to keep up with the 'waves now?

I should modify my 4.5 cu. ft. box so I can get down to 15Hz instead of 30.
 
Funny you say that.... My wife just got home from the store, and I gave her a half volume ride with the Music Choice Rap channel. A song was on that had some super deep bass. The kind you can't hear so much as you feel... and she said it was almost painful....

I'd say yeah.. pretty much enough amp on them. I really need to turn the subs off before the amp breaks a sweat, because my Barzi's are doing pretty much enough on their own. Granted it isn't as deep of bass from the Barzi's, but it's sill rattling stuff all over the house..

TV on these sure is pretty amazing now... even better than most of the theaters around here concerning the deep bass.

Wish I would have done this long before now.
 
Them low frequencies are fun, huh?

I like to vibrate the drywall against the studs in my apartment with my 8 Advents.

I wonder what the neighbors think is going on when I do that?

I'd really love to get some measurements on this thing to find out how flat they are to get an idea of how well the boxes are tuned. I know there are other ways to do it, but ma is that work...

I gotta admit, they play a LOT lower than I was ever imagining they would. When I have some time I'll have to sit down with some good tones and some good sweeps to get a better idea of how well they really play. I'm jut so happy they don't seem to be a single tone, and they don't get overload and become flubby with a lot of volume or the lowest of tones.

Takes just a few seconds with a mic, USB interface or sound card, and computer.

Nice work! I take it you are running these stereo? I found that in my setup(16 x 24 room) reversing the phase on one side sounds much better.
 
I'm running them mono. Guess I could try flipping the wires over to see what they sound like..

I'm actually running the amp stereo, but I'm running the crossover mono.
 
Is that an Ashly FET-2000 power amp I see? I have one as well, but mine's the C... no lights in front. I LOVE it! 300 watts per side stereo or bridged at 1000! Got mine for a cool 100 clams. :thmbsp:
 
Keep an eye on the drywall Simi, i've pretty well wrecked it on the first floor here with the basement system. I've got some serious plastering and painting to do before the house goes on the market in the spring.
